Andrew Cross homered and Christopher Sandor threw five strong innings to lead Moon Area to a 5-2 victory over Chartiers Valley Wednesday in a Class 5A Section 2 baseball game at Moon.

Montour’s duo of Jonah Camardese and Trey Varga advanced to the finals of the WPIAL Class 2A Section 2 Doubles Tournament Tuesday but came up short in a battle with the defending WPIAL champion tandem from South Park.

Camardese and Varga, who were seeded No. 2 in the field, opened play by beating No. 7 seed Max Klein and Xavier O’Leary of Carlynton, 10-2.

A K-9 with the McKees Rocks Police Department is in the running to appear on the 2027 Dogs of Law Enforcement calendar.

And area residents can help make that happen, as contest voting is now underway.

The local K-9 is Roman, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois.

Police patrolman Will Kelly said he’s happy that Roman is part of the competition.
