Welcome to Truth Be Told ABOUT GOING WILD. I'm your host, Robert Hensley, and this is the podcast inspired by the principles of Personal Rewilding. I recently had an opportunity to participate in a group art project curated by the National Road Heritage Corridor here in Pennsylvania. The focus of which was Creative Placemaking.

It wasn't something I thought about before, but since it's been a regular passenger on my train of thought. How could Creative Placemaking be used to support the practice of Personal Rewilding? Now, Personal Rewilding is often described as a return to Nature, but it can also mean rediscovering our own capacity for curiosity, connection play, and belonging.

Creative Placemaking offers a powerful way to support that process by transforming ordinary spaces into places that invite people to slow down, notice, participate, and reconnect. Creative Placemaking brings art, storytelling, design, performance, and community activity into shared environments. A neglected lot might become a community garden. Aforgotten pathway becomes an outdoor gallery. A neighborhood gathering place might host music, ecological workshops, or storytelling. These interventions do more than beautify a location. They change how people experience and relate to that place.

For personal rewilding, this shift in perception is important. When we participate creatively in a landscape, we become more attentive to its rhythms, histories, plants, animals, and the people who live there.

Making art from natural materials, mapping a neighborhood through memories, planting native species, or simply Gathering Outdoors can restore a sense of agency and wonder. Nature becomes less of a distant destination and more of a living relationship. Creative Placemaking can therefore help bridge the psychological divide between people and the more than human world.

It encourages us to see, excuse me. It encourages us to see ourselves, not as visitors to Nature, but as participants within a living system. In this sense, personal worlding is not about escaping the built environment. It's about reimagining our place within it. Ultimately Creative Placemaking, makes rewilding social as well as personal.

By creating places where people can encounter nature, culture, and one another, it helps cultivate curiosity, care, and belonging needed to be more reciprocal. With the world around us.
