Today’s big yuk was Trump’s offer to pay every American $5,000 if the voters keep the House and Senate in Republican hands. A lot of people sincerely believed they’d get a $5,000 DOGE check, or else the $2000 tariff check. I encountered a couple of people who were checking the mail every day waiting for that check. My biggest worry for the week is that some jerks will show up at the New York City September 11 observance to protest Mayor Mamdani. On social media one cannot mention Mayor Mamdani without attracting hoards of bigots, often saying that NYC “forgot” 9/11 when they elected a Muslim mayor. In their minds all Muslims are personally responsible for 9/11, it seems.
