Labor will not form majority government in New South Wales, after two of the final three seats in dispute after last week’s election were called for the Liberal party.

Holsworthy, in Sydney’s south-west, would be retained by the Liberals, the ABC election analyst, Antony Green, said, while also declaring the party would hold Terrigal, on the Central Coast.

Lucky folks across much of eastern Australia will welcome an extra hour of shut-eye as daylight saving comes to an end on Sunday.

Clocks in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT will lose an hour at 3am, joining the same time zone as Queensland.

The NSW environment minister says the conduct of One Nation MP Mark Latham has been “completely unacceptable”, renewing calls for him to apologise for a homophobic tweet.

“Mark Latham and his behaviour over the last couple of days is completely unacceptable,” Penny Sharpe told reporters on Saturday.

The entry hall at the Art Gallery of New South Wales is lined with portraits of First Nations women. In 2021, the publisher of my book The Big Switch arranged a hectic book tour, in two chunks, on the east and south coasts of this continent. I didn’t want to fly; since my book was about why we need to electrify everything to address climate change, I wanted to drive an electric car so I could experience first-hand the practical limitations of the national charging network. This was going to mean many hours driving between towns, not to mention hours waiting for the car to charge. I hit upon the idea of spending that time with my mother, Pamela, whom I’d seen less than I would have liked after 25 or so years living in the US.

Everywhere we went, we met smart, practical people who showed up already engaged and knowledgable about this crusade: the need to electrify everything, backed by renewables, to address climate heating and keep our Earth livable.

A man claiming to be an off-duty police officer chased an eight-year-old Aboriginal boy riding a bike and struck him with his ute, according to a report made to NSW police and the state’s law enforcement watchdog.

Elijah Stevens – grandson of Tanya Day, who died in custody in Victoria in 2017 – had an altercation with another boy at the skate park in Moama, in NSW’s Riverina district, shortly before the incident occurred, according to his father, Warren Stevens.

A grand jury has voted to indict former US president Donald Trump in New York over a US$130,000 hush money payment made to the adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. It is the first time in US history that a sitting or former US president has faced a criminal indictment.

The specific charges currently remain under seal but the focus of the long-running investigation had been around the payments made to Daniels in order to buy her silence over the alleged affair during the 2016 election campaign.

AMP shareholders have voted against executive pay packets at the troubled financial institution over concerns bonuses are too high for a company delivering lacklustre performance and a weak share price.

AMP has lost about three-quarters of its market value in the five years since the banking royal commission disclosed numerous poor practices at the company, including its willingness to charge insurance premiums to dead customers.
