The Batavia Muckdogs overcame a massive mid-game surge from the Jamestown Tarp Skunks, relying on a balanced offensive attack and timely hits to secure an 8-6 victory on Wednesday night. In a game marked by a 48-minute rain delay, the Muckdogs built an early lead and successfully fended off a late-inning comeback attempt to defend their home turf.

While Batavia controlled the early momentum, the game’s tension peaked in the 6th inning. After being held scoreless for 5 innings, the Tarp Skunks finally broke through against the Muckdogs' bullpen. Following an RBI double by Grant Moore, Dom Costello delivered a seismic blow, crushing a 4-run home run to right field that suddenly slashed the Muckdogs' 6-0 lead to just a single run.

However, Batavia immediately reclaimed the momentum in the bottom half of the inning when Kyle Vaughn answered with a solo home run, providing the crucial insurance run that prevented the Tarp Skunks from completing their rally.

Muckdogs offense, Glenn Brooks provided the heavy lifting by driving in four of the team's 8 runs. He opened the scoring with a 2-RBI single in the first and later added an RBI sacrifice fly and a clutch 7th-inning triple.

Dom Costello nearly single-handedly willed the Tarp Skunks back into the contest. His 4-RBI home run in the 6th inning served as the catalyst for the Jamestown comeback and accounted for the bulk of his team's production.

Despite the loss, Grant Moore was a constant thorn in the side of the Batavia pitching staff. The outfielder finished 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs, playing a part in both the 6th and 7th-inning scoring rallies.

The win moves the Muckdogs to 8-6, capping a long night of baseball that lasted nearly four hours, including the weather-related interruption. For the Tarp Skunks, the loss is a difficult result following a resilient effort that saw them battle back from a 6-0 deficit against a persistent Batavia lineup.

The Batavia Muckdogs are playing their next three games at home this weekend. Tonight and Sunday are exhibition games, while Friday’s home game will feature holiday fireworks.
