I grew up on a farm, with horses, Wranglers, and cowboy boots all around. But I don’t ride now and I certainly don’t live on a farm anymore, so when I wear cowboy boots, it can feel a bit like a costume. Like I’m pretending to be something I’m not — especially since one of my brothers wears boots to literally herd cattle and compete in rodeos. (And win, I should add.)

I avoided the whole capsule wardrobe concept for years. I’m not even sure why. I think I had decided a capsule wardrobe meant I’d have to pare down to 10 sad, boring items and wear them on repeat until I lost the will to get dressed. So I just didn’t do it.

Then I built one. And I kind of loved it.
