Swedish textile-to-textile recycling company Syre has announced partnerships with ABB and JEPLAN. ABB has partnered with Syre to develop Syre’s first textile-to-textile recycling plant in Vietnam, and JEPLAN has partnered with Syre to accelerate the commercialization of circular polyester.

Under the agreement between Syre and JEPLAN, full commercialization, spinning validation and product line samples with brands are expected in late 2026.

JEPLAN operates a PET chemical recycling plant for textile in Kitakyushu, Japan, including demonstration and semi-industrial units used to test and scale chemical recycling technologies.

The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration to investigate how ABB’s automation, electrification and digital technologies could contribute to safe, efficient and scalable operations at the proposed plant in Vietnam. Activities are expected to run in parallel with the engineering phase of Syre’s first plant. Construction of the facility is expected in 2027.

“This agreement reflects ABB’s role in supporting emerging industrial applications where automation and electrification can enable greater resource efficiency,” says Wilson Monteiro, global business line manager for pulp, paper and fiber in ABB’s process industries division. “Together with Syre, we will explore how our experience in fiber processing, chemicals and advanced process industries can be applied to polyester recycling. We’re excited to discover what’s possible as we embark on this new technological collaboration.”
