This afternoon, AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia has posted a message on his Instagram about the injury he suffered on Sunday night.

Seeing Gabbia go down was bad enough; the Italian had only just returned and it was hoped that he hadn’t come back too early. When he stayed down, though, that feeling was worsened and you knew something serious was up.

Yesterday, reports confirmed a serious injury to his thigh and it seems he won’t be back on the pitch until 2027, but it may not be the first months of the year…

Gabbia’s message

In an Instagram post this afternoon, Gabbia offered thanks to his friends, family and the fans, as well as an apology that he wouldn’t be on the pitch for some time.

“Today is a really hard one. I’m really sorry I can’t help the team at this very important time in the season.

“I will do everything possible to return to the best I can and as soon as possible next to my teammates, with the Rossoneri shirt on.

“A big THANK YOU to my family, society, staff and my mates for being close to me. Thanks, of course, also to all of you fans that are always present and by our side.

“See you soon, San Siro !!! Forza Milan Sempre ”

Everyone reading that statement would agree that there is nothing to apologise for. As always, though, Gabbia has put the club above himself, a true professional and a real absence at the back for the Diavolo.
