In Scent Work, we ask “Does the dog know odor?” all the time. It’s a reasonable question. It’s also incomplete.

A dog can know odor and still leave it. A dog can understand sourcing and still follow handler motion as if it carries more weight. A dog can have a trained alert and still make a choice that looks confusing once...
