A listener writes “My encounter happened in South Texas, near Charlotte in Atascosa County. This took place in 2018, a year when we had received a lot of rain. I do a lot of hog hunting with dogs, and on this particular night I was hunting with a good friend of mine, Frank, and two of his coworkers.

We had hunted several fields throughout the night without any luck finding hogs. Eventually, Frank asked if I wanted to try one more spot about 30 miles away that usually held hogs. By the time we arrived, it was around 4:00 a.m. The fields were extremely muddy from all the rain.

Frank asked me and the two other guys to walk the dogs across a large field to a pond on the back side of the property. By then, a thick fog had rolled in. Visibility was terrible you couldn’t see more than 15 or 20 yards in front of you.

We only had three dogs with us, and as soon as we started walking, they took off. I stopped, expecting to hear them bark, but after about ten minutes one of the dogs, Copper, came back. I decided to head in the direction the other two dogs had gone.

As we walked, one of the coworkers suddenly stopped and said, “Look at that hog.”

I looked ahead and could see something standing right in front of us, but I told him there was no way it was a hog because of how close we had gotten without it running off. I flipped on my flashlight and sure enough, it was a hog. The moment the light hit it, it took off running.

I tried to send Copper after it, but he refused to go. I followed the hog’s trail through the dew-covered grass until we reached a barbed-wire fence with a well-used hog trail running through it. I kept trying to get Copper to track the hog, but he simply sat down. I’d never seen him act like that before.

Then I heard what sounded like a dog bark, but something about it seemed off. I assumed it was one of the other two dogs that hadn’t come back. A few seconds later, I heard the same sound again, but this time it came from my right and had a much deeper tone.

Not long after that, we heard something moving through the brush. What immediately caught my attention was that it sounded like it was walking on two legs. The ground was saturated and muddy, so each footstep was easy to hear. Whatever it was, it seemed to be moving slowly and deliberately, pushing branches aside as it came toward us.

The two coworkers and I crouched down along the fence line and listened. The sound kept getting closer until it stopped directly in front of us in the brush.

By that point, I had already cocked the hammer on the .30-30 rifle I was carrying.

Then, from farther down the fence line, I heard the strangest scream I’ve ever heard in my life. The best way I can describe it is that it had a monkey-like quality to it, but much louder and more powerful. It instantly put me on edge.

I pointed my rifle toward the spot where the footsteps had stopped and fired a shot. Then I called Frank and told him to come get us immediately.

Frank came flying across the muddy field in a hurry. While we waited, I never stopped scanning the tree line with my flashlight.

When he arrived, we told him everything that had happened. His response was, “I told y’all there’s fucking monkeys out here.”

I’d hunted that property since I was nine years old and had never personally seen anything strange there. However, there had been other incidents over the years. One night, a guy we brought out there swore he saw a huge, hairy black figure standing above some persimmon bushes. Another time, a man I know had just killed a hog and was working on it when he and his hunting partners thought they saw a very tall figure walking toward them along the fence line. They were trespassing at the time and quickly left the area.

What stands out is that all of these incidents occurred near the same pond and along the same fence line.

I never actually saw whatever was moving through the brush that night. But considering the strange vocalizations, the bipedal footsteps, the dogs’ unusual behavior, and the other reports from that exact location over the years, everything points me toward the possibility that I encountered a Sasquatch family group.
