The oldest cosmic dance of the year is scheduled to begin in April, and you'll want a front-row seat to the intergalactic spectacle. According to Earth Sky, a platform that highlights cosmic events, the Lyrid meteor shower will hurtle across the night sky beginning on April 15, 2023, creating a perfectly orchestrated natural phenomena you won't want to miss.

Located between the constellations Lyra (near the brilliant star Vega) and Hercules, the Lyrids are dusty trails of debris from Comet Thatcher that have been orbiting the sun for centuries. The first recorded sighting of the meteor showers was in 687 BC, when Chinese court astronomers reported, "In the middle of the night, stars fell like rain," making them one of the oldest recorded meteor showers in modern history.

Known for their speed and brightness, Lyrid meteors often leave behind glowing dust trails that can last for minutes at a time. Typically, the Lyrids produce an average of five to 20 meteors per hour, many of which cast a magnitude, or brightness level, of +2. But brighter meteors, known as Lyrid "fireballs," can also occur, casting shadows for a split second and leaving behind smoky debris trails.

The 2023 Lyrid meteor shower will be visible from roughly April 15 to April 29. The cosmic dance will pick up steam and reach peak visibility in the late evening on April 22 and early morning April 23 in the Northern Hemisphere.

To observe the peak points of the shower for yourself, you'll have to be patient, and possibly go to bed early, as the show will be at its brightest between moonset and dawn. If you'd rather not stay up past midnight, the show will be officially visible beginning at Lyra's rising time, or about 9 to 10 p.m. local time. Light pollution can affect the visibility of the meteor shower, so it's best to view from a dark countryside location.

What are the different styles of extendable dining tables?

Butterfly-leaf styles have folding seams at the center of the extension leaf, so they open up and close like a set of butterfly wings. When not in use, you can fold these leaves up and store them underneath the table or in a cabinet. A self-storing leaf dining table is pretty self-explanatory: the table itself has space to store the expansion leaf of the table. Drop-leaf tables have a fixed center and hinged sections on either side that can be folded down or dropped for a smaller table, or lifted up and locked into place for a longer table.

Astrologers have long considered the moon to be central to our moods, using it to explain why people seem to be unhinged and restless during full moons, for example. But according to TikTok's latest moon-phase compatibility trend, looking at the moon phase at the time of your birth could reveal how compatible you are with a partner. The trend alleges that if you compare the phase of the moon on your birthday with that of your partner's and your moon phases fit together to create a full moon, you might be a perfect match.

Users are testing their relationship's harmony by inputting their birthdate information into moon-phases calculators online to see if they complete each other. Then, they're using a video editor to create a clip demonstrating how well their moons align. The idea is that if you and your partner create a full moon, it means you've found your person.

"Apparently if your moon phases match up you are soulmates," user kaylahouston03 says, followed by their moon phases creating a full moon. But for other couples like Mattxkayla, whose moon phases were both in the waning gibbous phase, a soulmate connection just isn't written in the stars, according to this TikTok trend. "I think we got the worst moon phase," they wrote.

But you probably already know you can't trust everything you hear on the internet. So we asked an astrologer: does puzzling moon phases together really demonstrate compatibility? Lauren Ash, Sanctuary's resident astrologer and host of the podcast "Birth Chart Pls," isn't entirely convinced. But the moon can say a lot about your connection. Here's what you need to know.

Do Moon Phases Have Anything to Do With Compatibility?

If you've spent any time sifting through astrological compatibility, you might be aware of the fact that the sun, moon, and planets play a huge role. There are plenty of clues in the way your birth chart relates to your partner's that can show how well you might get along. However, assessing compatibility by looking at lunar phases is a totally different story. From an astrological perspective, the moon rules feelings, emotional responses, and intuition - which are all crucial in relationships. "There are a total of eight moon phases in astrology, and each moon phase holds its own significant spiritual meaning and energy," Ash says. "And with the moon moving through all eight phases every 29.5 days, it's no wonder the phase of the moon you were born under can influence your personality and emotions so directly."

Ash adds that each phase of the moon can give off a certain vibe and in turn can discern your emotional needs and desires as well as how you express your feelings. For example, if you were born under a new moon, you're likely to lust after new adventures. Those born under a last quarter moon, she explains, tend to be more relaxed. Here's a breakdown:

• New Moon: Exploration is important to you, especially when it comes to love. People born during a new moon tend to be "outgoing and ambitious people who wear their hearts on their sleeves," Ash says.
• Waxing Crescent Moon: Those born during a waxing crescent moon are likely to be assertive go-getters. "They are bold in their intentions and like to express their affections directly," Ash explains.
• First Quarter Moon: You might be extra self-sufficient and courageous if you were born under a first quarter moon. Those with a first quarter moon may enjoy being challenged and desire a partner who can encourage them to be better, Ash explains.
• Waxing Gibbous: "Those born under the waxing moon gibbous phase are practical, grounded, and adaptable people," Ash says. When it comes to love, they tend to be compassionate and straightforward.
• Full Moon: Full-moon babies tend to be emotionally sensitive and passionate when it comes to expressing affection. "They may seem guarded at first, but their loyalty and devotion runs deep," Ash says.
• Waning Gibbous: "People born during a waning gibbous moon are very grounded in who they are and admire a partner with confidence," Ash explains. They're logical and amazing at listening to the needs of others and communicating their own.
• Last Quarter: Going with the flow is second nature to those born during a last quarter moon - they appreciate a partner who's open to new things. "They are authentic and truthful people, but they also struggle to commit at times," Ash explains.
• Waning Crescent: Vulnerability may not be your strong suit if you were born during a waning crescent moon. "They have a lot of passion and fire, but they will flee if they start to feel caged in," Ash says.

Your Venus sign, for example, describes your romantic language and how you express affection and require love. Your seventh-house placement, which is associated with partnerships, is also a powerful element to consider when assessing your compatibility.

How to Try the Moon-Phase TikTok Trend

Moon phases may not have a significant meaning in terms of astrological compatibility, but if you want to test your celestial connection for yourself for fun, here's how.

To start, use a moon-phase calculator like Moonphases.co or YourMoonPhase.com to calculate the moon phases for the days when you and your partner were born. If your moon phases mesh together and complete a full moon, you're a good pair, per the TikTok trend, and the same is debated if you have matching moon phases. If they don't fit, TikTok says it's likely you're not soulmate-level compatible.

If you want to get in on the TikTok trend and post a video, you'll need to have downloaded the CapCut video editing app. Screenshot your moon-phase images, click on "CapCut try this template" on a TikTok using this trend, then hit "use template" in CapCut and insert your screenshots. Finally, add text (some people have been adding their birthdays).

Looking at your moon sign or moon phase may tell you a little bit about your emotional drive or personality, and that info might help you understand how you work best within a relationship. But the truth is, relationship compatibility is complex, and discerning a soulmate connection takes a lot more than knowing whether your moon phases complete each other.

Like Carreon, Ghavami also uses a strawberry Fruit Roll-Up in her video, but instead of vanilla ice cream she uses mango, and she mentions you can use any flavor you want.

Since Fruit Roll-Ups only come in fruity flavors like Punch Berry and Tropical Tie-Dye, most people have been using sherbet or fruit sorbet to do the trend. It makes sense to pair fruit with fruit; however, if you don't have a sweet tooth, you might find the sorbet pairing to be overly sugary. If that's the case, plain vanilla would definitely be a better option, and even chocolaty flavors work well, too.

Since the Fruit Roll-Up will only stay crunchy for as long as the ice cream is cold, you'll want to eat it right away, or for even more crunch, stick it in the freezer for two to three minutes.

Unfortunately, this seems to only work with Fruit Roll-Ups, and not with fruit leather or other similar products, as some TikTokers have pointed out.

Controversial opinion: Snickers are the perfect chocolate bar. They've got it all - the sweet, the salty, the chewy, the crunchy. Jennifer Garner clearly agrees, since she went through the trouble of whipping up homemade Snickers bars herself. Luckily for us, she documented the progress on her Instagram, and the end result looks worth the extra work. Especially considering that her version is mostly vegan (barring the honey).

While Garner admits that making the homemade candy bars was "a lot of effort" and says she "wouldn't do it all the time," her mmm face at the first bite reveals that the extra steps are probably worth it. Making homemade Snickers bars isn't hard, necessarily - it just takes more time than running to the nearest drugstore to pick up a packaged bar.

Garner's homemade Snickers bars are adapted from Half Baked Harvest's recipe, but that's not the only one floating around. We tried our hand at a similar vegan Snickers recipe, which uses almonds and maple syrup to make the nougat, Medjool dates and coconut oil for a caramel-y filling, and dark chocolate to encase the filling (though you can swap it for milk chocolate, if that's your preference).

Soft, chewy, and with the perfect peanut crunch, these satisfy a Snickers craving and then some.

You'll start by blending up some fresh almonds with maple syrup and whole-wheat flour, essentially making almond butter, but with a thicker, sweeter consistency that you can form into a nougat bar. (You can also use store-bought almond butter if you want to make this even simpler.)

Then, you'll make the "caramel" sauce and smear it over the nougat before pressing some signature peanuts on top. (Bonus to making homemade Snickers bars: you can swap out the peanuts for another crunchy alternative if you have peanut allergies.)

At this stage, you may be ready to dig in - but of course, you've got to coat each bar in decadent dark chocolate first.

Of all the fascinating aspects of celebrities' lives, for me, their food preferences sit at the top of the list. Just a few weeks after discovering Pedro Pascal's concerning Starbucks order, we're now learning that Tessa Thompson has never had a hamburger before, and only recently tried eggs.

At the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty on March 12, where In-N-Out burgers were served, Thompson revealed the fun fact to journalist Amelia Dimoldenberg on the red carpet. Wearing a tuxedo-style gown with an exposed rosette bra, the "Creed III" star shared that despite not being a vegetarian, she's never had a burger in her life. "It's the only thing extraordinary that I can still claim," she said, since she'd recently eaten eggs for the first time. Days prior, Thompson actually ate her first plate of eggs during an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on March 4. She explained her fear of eggs was born out of "misinformation," and then eventually, it became her schtick and party trick after a certain age.

"My parents never told me that the eggs that you eat would never become a chicken, so morally, I was like, they should be chickens someday, so I didn't eat eggs then," she shared with Fallon. "Then once I understood that, I just didn't trust them. You know? Because they shape-shift. One second, they're this. One second, they're that." Thompson admitted she wouldn't even eat eggplant for a while because she associated the vegetable with eggs.

Despite her "Creed III" costars attempting to get her to try eggs (Jonathan Majors apparently ate eight hard-boiled eggs for breakfast during filming), Thompson continued to hold off on trying the protein-packed food because "you've gotta hold on to the ways in which you can be exceptional." I have a big personal goal for 2023. No, it's not to run a marathon or even reorganize my closet. It's to visit an Erewhon Market. "Surely she can't mean the luxury grocery store chain?," you may be asking. But I do. I dream of wandering the well-lit aisles of the food store that has beguiled Spencer Pratt and cornered the market on such upscale, you-didn't-know-you-needed-it items like sea moss gel. Unfortunately, I'm mostly sequestered to the East Coast and where I reside is currently devoid of Erewhon locations. (But that can be changed - do you hear me, Erewhon gods?)

One such big draw to the chain is there often-viral collabs with celebrities on decadent smoothies, like Hailey Bieber's 2022 strawberry glaze mix to Bella Hadid's Kinsicle creation. The latest such smoothie, launched in February and available for just a few more days (3/15), is dubbed the Love Potion and was concocted with help from "8 Rules of Love" author and life guru Jay Shetty.

"Whether you're looking for a romantic pick me up with a loved one or simply a way to show yourself some love, my goal is for this smoothie to bring you a reminder of nourishment to your body and heart," Shetty says.

Erewhon kindly provided a list of the Love Potion ingredients, as well as some of the products, for me to try to recreate the Love Potion at home and live my vibe-y supermarket fantasies. No guest was left hungry at the 2023 Oscars. Ahead of revealing the award for best animated short film, host Jimmy Kimmel offered an important reminder for the audience: snacks were available to enjoy under their seats. "We have many more awards to go," he said, after yet another slap joke. "How are you guys holding up? Everybody OK? You're hanging in there? I put food underneath your seats. I don't know if you noticed it."

In case you were wondering what exact refreshments celebrities were eating, we did some investigating. Unlike award shows like the Grammys and SAG Awards, the Oscars are held in a theater with auditorium seating, so guests aren't usually enjoying meals and drinks from their seats during the ceremony. But Kimmel, in partnership with the Academy, provided food boxes with a small assortment of snacks.

As captured by guests, each box included a giant artisanal soft pretzel from Shappy Pretzel Co., a small box of candy (some received Sour Patch Kids, others, Hot Tamales), an aluminum bottled water . . . and that's it! There was also, however, a donation made in Kimmel's name to the LA Regional Food Bank. "Eat this. You're hungry," read a handwritten note from the late-night show host. Shappy Pretzel Co. owner actor Adam Shapiro and his wife, Katie Lowes, posed with their pretzels on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony.

Though the pretzel looked fluffy and quite delicious, sadly, no audience member was photographed enjoying the snack. Considering no one was eating the gorgeous fruit platters at the Grammys in February, it's no surprise celebrities hardly nibbled on the complimentary bites at the Oscars.
