The house was built in1993. The hot water heater was more than likely replaced at some point. I've lived here for 3 years, and don't know the prior history. The prior homeowner gave me a stack of receipts and manuals, but there is nothing on the HW heater.

I replaced the strainer basket on a double bowl kitchen sink and the tailpiece flange washer now partially blocks off the 4 drain slots in the basket. What have I fricked up? See the attached picture.

DIYer
- working on plumbing since I was 8 to 10 yo, starting with clogged bathroom P-traps clean-outs. I've done faucet repair/replacement. Toilets, garbage disposal, sump pumps, and I have snaked the septic line too many times. Plumbing isn't my favorite, but I generally have been successful.

This is the way the tub drain was installed probably when the house was built 1920. They didn't create a plumbers box which is what I plan to do.

Currently the drain runs to a tee that pickups up the drain pipe - not seen in the picture.

I've been laid up in bed for the past few months, so every morning I use my cell phone to read what's going on in the plumbers forum.
