It was back there in the year 1989, 37 years ago, that I visited the local newspaper office in the city of Pembroke. I went there to see if there was any room in the newspaper for a religious column. I spoke to two employees of the newspaper that day, Debbie Robinson and Jim Badgley.

Before a gymnasium filled with family, friends and staff, 46 students crossed the stage at Jeanne-Lajoie (French) Catholic Secondary School during graduation ceremonies that celebrated the accomplishments of the Pembroke school’s Class of 2026.

In my last column, I mentioned that I observed a Prothonotary Warbler at Rondeau Provincial Park. This bird is rare for our area, last recorded in 2002.

Pembroke council has approved water and wastewater rates for the next several years that will see significant increases for residents beginning right away, as the city prepares for more than $161 million in infrastructure work needed to keep its aging systems safe, reliable, and compliant with provincial regulations.
