Mother's Day (US) - Reminder

On the second Sunday in May, many people around the world celebrate Mother's Day, an event well worthy of a timely alert. Click on the green Configure button and make sure you get alerted on time!

Why use a reminder?
  • Make her feel loved: Forgetting about Mother's Day could be seen as you don't care, and lack gratitude for the biggest gift there is on earth: she gave you your life.
  • Don't look like a fool if your siblings thank your mother but you forget!
  • Don't be too late: If you want to buy her flowers, but think of it too late, flower shops may have run out on flowers on that special day, as everybody is buying them!
  • Plan in advance: The feed allows you to define how many days before Mother's Day you want to get alerted. For example, you can set a reminder for 7 days before, so that you have ample time to plan for a very special day which she won't forget.

Why is Mother's Day so special?

On Mother's Day, hundreds of millions of calls are directed to moms. This day honors motherhood in general, as well as maternal bonds that don't necessarily have any blood connections between them.

It is a beautiful opportunity for us to express all the feelings of gratitude and love we harbor, as every mother loves to hear how much she is appreciated!

This special day is celebrated on different dates

In 2020, this holiday was celebrated on May 10, while in 2021 the date was May 9, and it all depends on which date the second Sunday of May falls. However, not all countries follow the same rule.

Poland, for example, has a fixed date - the 26th of May - and Mother's Day is not considered a public holiday. So if your country follows the "second Sunday of May" tradition, you are a part of (or in the company of) countries like Australia, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, and Belgium.

Prime-time for the card makers and restaurant holders

Just like on Valentine's Day (find that feed here), gift card sales explode on Mother's Day, and many restaurants are, or at least were, super-busy on this particular occasion. Even during these challenging times, more than 25 billion USD was reportedly spent on MD in 2021!

According to Hallmark, Mother's Day is the third-largest card-sending holiday in the United States (110+ million cards), and around 85% of adults celebrate it.

Some more fun information before you go!

How did it all officially start in America? Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States, made "Mother's Day" official in 1914 after activist Anna Jarvis's persuaded him to do so.

Are you in two minds about what flowers to buy? Carnations are a very popular flower gifted on this day, as they symbolize devotion and love.

What to make instead of buying a box of chocolates? Simnel Cake is a favorite option for many who celebrate Mother's Day and have a sweet tooth. If you didn't try it, and you love dried fruit, find a recipe quick!

Whatever the physical gift is, we are pretty sure "I love you" and "thank you" trumps all of it. So when you do get alerted, make sure you make this Mother's Day even more memorable!
