Liturgy

Contemporary biblical scholarship, history, and science need to be taken-for-granted parts of the homily or sermon, not hidden from the congregation out of fear of scaring the horses.

O God, you redeem us and adopt us as your children; look upon us with your tender love that all who believe in Christ may be given true freedom  and receive an eternal inheritance;  through Jesus Christ, who is alive with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

NZ Anglicanism appears to have handed over, for the first time ever, the teaching and practice of the Church to another body and accepted a themed Sundays where our internationally and ecumenically shared readings are abandoned for a concordance-style, cherry-picking proof-text set of readings.

God of power and might, source of all good; graft in our hearts the love of your name, and bind us more closely to you so that you nourish the goodness you sow in us and, by your watchful care, you tend and guard the good you have nourished; through Jesus Christ, who is alive with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
