Milton Keynes Dons Women put in a solid performance against Chesham, winning their final match of the season by 2-1.

Mollie Knox marked her return to the squad with a screamer in the first half, powering a beautiful curved ball from the top of the area into the top right corner of the net to open the scoring for the Dons.

Unfortunately, it was followed up a few minutes later by an equaliser from Chesham.

However, this didn’t deter Fadi Mazloum’s side, as in added time of the first half, Giusy Carnevale found the lead for the Dons.

The second half was a goalless affair, with MK Dons Women doing well to keep the determined hosts at bay to maintain their lead.

Overall, it was a great game to end the season on, with the three points from this match, and results elsewhere, meaning the Dons Women finish a respectable eighth place in the FA WNL Division One South East table.

First Half

MK Dons Women couldn’t have asked for a better start to their last match of the season, with injury returnee Mollie Knox finding the opener! The striker weaved her way to the top of the box very neatly, and fired the ball straight away towards the net, and the looping effort found the top right corner of the net! 0-1

Unfortunately, ten minutes later, Chesham found their equaliser after their striker broke free up the pitch and slipped one in for the hosts, it appeared to be offside, but the referee adjudged it to be on. 1-1

The 20th minute almost saw MK Dons Women gain the lead, after Alex O’Neill delivered a lovely free-kick into the box. It found the head of Paige Ridley, but her forceful header slipped past the left post by a whisker.

The game had a frantic feel to it in the first half, with the Dons desperately trying to regain their lead and Chesham attempting to do the same, nothing came from either side for a little while though.

MK Dons Women almost found the lead in added time, when Maddie Pollard powered a strong ball towards the net, but unfortunately, it rebounded off the right post.

One minute later though, Fadi Mazloum’s side regained their lead by way of Giusy Carnevale, who smashed one into the back of the net for the Dons! 1-2

Overall, it was a competitive half, with the Dons seeming to regain their foothold as the ‘45 went on, and they will have to continue that positive momentum after the break.

Second Half

There was one change for the Dons at the break, with Amelie Sarll coming on for Sophie Birkett.

The half nearly opened with a goal for the Dons Women, but Maddie Pollard’s good effort was kept out well by the Chesham ‘keeper.

There was another substitution around the 60th minute, with Kim Farrow coming on for Giusy Carnevale.

After a while of well-contested play, there was another substitution after Paige Ridley picked up a knock, seeing her come off and Freya Perkins come on.

Chesham were well and truly on the attack to find their equaliser, but the Dons Women were doing enough to keep the hosts at bay.

There was very nearly a Chesham own goal in added time after Maddie Pollard crossed it towards the net from the right, in an attempt to clear it, a Chesham player nearly scored in their own net, but the ‘keeper just managed to save it.

Overall, MK Dons Women put in a solid second half performance to ensure their victory over Chesham, and will be glad to add a final three points to their name to end 25/26 on a high.
