Teco Pottery and Ephraim Faience help shape top results

Crafted Auctions by Just Art Pottery held a Decorative and Fine Objects Auction on February 15, 2026, featuring a diverse selection of pottery, ceramics, metalwork, sculpture, mixed media, fine art, and more. Collectors had the opportunity to bid on original paintings and drawings, framed tiles, decorative vases, Native American pottery, porcelain figures, jewelry, and even KISS rock band collectibles and framed sports memorabilia.

The ceramics and pottery sections were especially inviting, boasting both historic and more contemporary pieces from Teco Pottery, Ephraim Faience, Roseville, Rookwood, and John Glick. In the auction website description, this sale emphasized “…craftsmanship, surface, and design, this sale appeals to collectors, designers, and art enthusiasts seeking unique, display-ready pieces with strong artistic presence.”

Top seller honors went to the Art Smith NYC Greenwich Village Studio “Lady Day” sterling silver trapped-ball necklace and brooch, which sold for $3,250, just over the high estimate of $3,000. The auction’s second-highest seller was a pair of Greta Grossman for Ralph O. Smith MCM brass tripod grasshopper desk lamps that realized $3,000, going two and a half times over the $1,200 high estimate.

Teco F. Albert’s vintage arts and crafts pottery matte green lobed vase 114 was the highest seller among ceramics, surpassing the $1,200 high estimate to hammer for $1,800. The softly contoured vase has a vertically lobed body and a narrow circular rim that showcases the balance in Teco’s designs. Another example of Teco’s precision balance was seen in the vintage arts and crafts pottery matte green ceramic baluster vase 150 that brought $1,000, doubling its high-end estimate of $500.

The genesis of Teco Pottery traces back to the American Terra Cotta Tile and Ceramic Company. Founded by William Day Gates in 1881, the Terra Cotta, Illinois-based company, originally produced fireproof building materials, including bricks and urns. Gates utilized the company’s processes to develop clays and glazes, introducing the Teco Pottery line in 1885.

The producer of fine pottery that began in the late 19th century was joined in the auction by one that emerged in the late 20th century: Ephraim Faience. A one-of-a-kind Ephraim Faience art pottery, framed high-glaze green landscape tile, soared beyond its estimate of $400–$600, landing at $1,600. The serene tile in rich shades of green and amber presents a stream reflecting the sky’s soft light, nestled in a forest. It is housed in a sculpted quartersawn oak frame with pegged joinery.

Ephraim Faience art pottery produced several results among the auction’s top sellers, like the framed arts and crafts tree frog tile that went for $950, selling for more than double the high-end estimate of $400. Rendered in multiple shades of green, the tile features a frog perched on a tree branch, nestled in a handcrafted quartersawn oak frame with a peaked mission-style design.

Founded in 1996 by Kevin Hicks and two partners, Ephraim Faience creates sculpted earthenware pottery with matte glazes in limited runs of 500 pieces or fewer. The bulk of their creations are vases, bowls, and pitchers, as well as tiles, boxes, lanterns, and paperweights.

Other pottery results also included a Rookwood Pottery 1891 standard-glaze blue iris handled vase 604C, decorated by Kataro Shirayamadani, which went beyond its $400 high estimate to clear $650, as well as a Roseville Rozane 1900s art pottery standard-glaze dog portrait vase, signed by artist Mae Timberlake, which sold for $700. The expressive, realistically detailed painting of a dog is captured on the front of the elongated ovoid form piece.
