A 28-year-old man who works for Innovation Learning, which provides before and after-school childcare programs for the South Kitsap School District, was arrested June 17 in Port Orchard following a search warrant served by the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office relating to the alleged possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

North Kitsap School District has announced that longtime educator Tim Garrison has been selected as the next principal of Hilder Pearson Elementary School. He will begin his new role July 1.

On June 17, the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association, the union representing roughly 400 Washington State Ferries’ engine room crewmembers, held a press conference at Seattle’s Colman dock to highlight concerns around high overtime rates and roughly 20% pay disparities between deck and engine room employees.

Port Orchard was a safer place to live last year as there were fewer aggravated assaults, burglaries and car thefts. Overall, the city experienced a 7.44% decrease in the crime rate compared to 2024, per Port Orchard Police Department statistics.
