Design blocks also almost do it.
I can get my shapes, save them as a design block then place any number of them and the polygons inherit touching nets fine. Furthermore I can easily update the design block from any of the instances.
The problem is that propagating these changes back to the already placed instances doesn’t work.

The .drl file will give you the XY coordinates of each drill hit, and a table of the drill sizes, but you may need to write or find software that will convert that data into a bunch of correctly-sized circles for the laser to cut.

On itself I’m perfectly fine with this behavior. If you want to have an option for a “one click default”, then you also have to have another option for selecting another template. And with this new method, the templates are more exposed, and thus users get more familiar with them, and I believe that is a good thing too.
