Honor retiring firefighter Matthew Moran and swear in Kevin Wake as a firefighter/paramedic.

Consider non-TIF business incentives of $25,000 for the owners of Healthy Hounds to relocate the business to 18646 Dixie Highway.

Flossmoor Storm Cleanup. Public works crews completed the first sweep through the village last week picking up tree debris from the July 3 and July 4 storms. In the coming week, crews will conduct a second sweep of debris placed curbside. On Monday, Aug. 3, regular monthly brush collection will begin. There is no planned brush collection in September, so crews and resources can be dedicated to the setup and preparation for the Hidden Gem Half Marathon. Before and After School Care. Registration is open for the H-F Park District’s A.M. Club and Extra Innings Before and After School Care for the 2026-27 school year. The programs have experienced staff, enrichment programs, activities and convenient locations. Register here.

Homewood Seeks Fall Fest Vendors. Homewood is accepting applications from makers, artists, bakers and specialty food vendors who want to have a spot at the village’s annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 10. Click here to apply.

Village Door Still Open. The Cancer Support Center announced in April that the Village Door store on Ridge Road in Homewood would close at the end of the year, but store manager Diane Matthews said the store and its volunteers are still welcoming donations of gently used household items and furniture. Smaller items can be dropped off at the shop anytime during shop hours. For donations of furniture items, send photos to villagedoor@cancersupportcenter.org along with contact information to coordinate the intake.

Legacy of Light Butterfly Release. The Forever Lexi Foundation is hosting the fifth annual Legacy of Light Butterfly Release on July 27 to honor the memory of Alexis Wilson who was a victim of police violence in 2021. The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. in Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Homegrown. Teens are invited to The Attic at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., from 2 to 3 p.m. to learn how to make a new snack using farm fresh ingredients. Then snack away while playing a game. Anyone with a food allergy should call and speak to Ms. Krystal to see what will be made at the program. Register here.

Make It Take It Tuesday. Teens are invited to The FORT in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway from 5 to 6 p.m. to learn a new craft you can make out of everyday supplies. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.

Myths and Magic Book Club. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a discussion from 6 to 8 p.m. of “Greenteeth” by Molly O’Neill. Books will be available for checkout at Circulation Services.

Choo-Choo Ride. Meet at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood at 6:30 p.m., for a family-friendly, easy-going bike ride around H-F. Helmets required.

Lassen’s Tuesday Trivia. Test your knowledge of the Harry Potter world from 8 to 10 p.m. at 2131 W. 183rd St. Doors open at 7 p.m. This week’s questions will focus on Harry Potter.

Let’s Explore Morris. Anyone aged 55 and up can meet at 10 a.m. at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood, for a trip to Morris. Return at 4 p.m. Lunch and dessert at Letty Mae’s Tea Room, followed by free time to explore the shops and antiques along Liberty Street. Round-trip transportation, meal, and gratuity are all included. Note: Lunch is located on the second floor and requires stairs. Bring spending money for shopping. Fee is $65 for H-F Park District residents, $80 for non-residents. Register here.
