I’m in zone 6, central Illinois. After the first frost, I cut the stem to about 6 inches tall. I place a bag of leaves or a bale of straw on top. Then I add wood chip mulch on top of that.

They seem to be daylength sensitive, with flowering being triggered by ~12 hr days. In Colombia they would have that year round but here its only around the equinoxes that they’d be apt to flower.
