Soyuz Microphones announces the Silver 17, a new large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone with a refined sense of air, presence, and top-end extension, while preserving the full-bodied character and rich midrange the 017 series is known for.

Built around a newly developed edge-terminated version of the company’s original S17 capsule, the Silver 17 introduces a new dimension to Soyuz’s flagship mic series.

The Silver 17 shares the same sonic DNA as its sibling, the 017 TUBE, but with a greater emphasis on the presence and clarity demanded for modern productions. The difference begins to shine in the upper range, where the Silver 17 remains open and expressive. The smooth lift and controlled articulation help vocals, guitars, keys, and other sources to come through naturally in a mix.

A NEW CAPSULE, BUILT AS A CLASSIC
The core of the Silver 17’s sound comes from its custom, edge-terminated variant of Soyuz’s S17 capsule: a hand-machined, gold-sputtered, 34mm design developed entirely in-house.

The original S17 was influenced by K67 geometry, the architecture behind some of the most recorded large-diaphragm condensers in history, and serves as the base of the 017 Series’ full low-end and midrange.

For the Silver 17, Soyuz engineers built on that foundation, drawing inspiration from mics like the LOMO 19A18, a rare Soviet-era gem often compared to a C12 and prized for its airiness and top-end response.

This hybrid approach led to a complete redesign of the capsule, including new acoustic resistance, new backplate mechanics, and new diaphragm tensioning. Where the original S17 routes its electrical charge through the center of the capsule, the Silver 17 applies the charge directly to the diaphragm and routes it through the mounting ring. With no center screw, there is no obstruction to the diaphragm’s most sensitive area.

The result is a capsule that responds more freely, delivering smooth articulation, clarity, and flattering high-frequency extension. The Silver 17 highlights detail without exaggerating it, maintaining a balance of density and polish that feels complete at the source.

HANDCRAFTED WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Like all Soyuz microphones, the Silver 17 is fully designed and manufactured in-house. Bodies are hand-turned on a lathe, capsules are individually machined and tensioned by hand, and transformers are wound internally. The microphone features true point-to-point wiring and is built around the same military-grade 6ZH1P tube used throughout the 017 Series.

Each Silver 17 includes a custom-matched shockmount and a handcrafted oak suitcase
