When families receive assistance purchasing food, they are often better able to pay rent, utility bills, childcare expenses, transportation costs, and healthcare needs. This additional spending ripples through the local economy, benefiting landlords, service providers, small businesses, and community institutions.

For rural communities in particular, SNAP can be an important source of economic stability. Grocery stores and food retailers in many communities rely on SNAP purchases as part of their customer base. Strong SNAP participation helps sustain these businesses and maintain access to food in areas where options may already be limited. Simply put, SNAP is not only an investment in people. It is an investment in local economies, local businesses, and the overall economic health of our communities.
