The World Cup is the most prestigious association football tournament in the world, as well as the most widely viewed and followed single sporting event in the world.

The 22nd edition is played in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022. This is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world, and the second held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.

This tournament has 32 participating teams and it is played in a reduced timeframe of 29 days. Competing countries were divided into eight groups of four teams (groups A to H). Teams in each group are playing one another in a round-robin, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stage.

In the knockout stage, if the scores are equal at the end of normal playing time, extra time is played for two periods of 15 minutes each. This is followed, if necessary, by a penalty shoot-out to determine the winners.

From November 9, you can download for free and play the FIFA 23 World Cup Expansion. This DLC doesn’t include Ultimate Team mode, but you have plenty of choices from where to choose: Kick Off, WC Tournaments, Online Tournaments and WC Live.

FUT 23 pack names follow a certain logic order.

Have you ever looked at FUT 23 pack names and thought to yourself ‘well, this is confusing’? Of course you have, we’ve all been there.

It’s easy to get lost by such long names that often seem so alike. After all, there are almost 300 packs in the game, and there’s always something like Mixed, Premium, Prime or Electrum in the name. But what the hell do these things mean?

As if that wasn’t already enough, EA continue to grow the family and it’s getting harder and harder for anyone to recall what each pack includes. You can always visit our packs database, but wouldn’t it be nice to know the reason behind each one of the names? Keep reading and you’ll realise FUT 23 pack names are really not as complex as they seem.

Comprehending Pack Names

There are so many terms that it is normal to be confused about, but the truth is that the FUT 23 pack names follow a particular logical order. Let’s start with the obvious: all terms end in ‘pack’. We don’t even need to mention this, but perhaps it will help you to open your eyes and look for other patterns.

Let’s make your job easier and tell you how is composed any FUT pack name. They can have up to four words preceding the ‘pack’, corresponding to four different categories, arranged in a specific order, which we will analyze below:

1. Pack Size;
2. Quantity of Rare Items
3. Quality of Items;
4. Category of Items.

Pack Size

By definition, a basic pack consists of 12 items. And there’s a reason for that. Besides being a good amount of cards, 12 is divisible by many numbers (2, 3, 4, 6). It is essential since new types of packs will eventually be created, and the total amount of items and / or rare ones available in them can be calculated using fractions of 12.

Generally, relatively to the size/amount of cards inside, the packs can be classified as:

Normal 12
Pack that consists of twelve items, the standard amount.
In these situations, the pack’s name carries no information relative to size, which means that this first category is omitted.
Examples: Gold Players Pack, Consumables Pack, Premium Electrum Players Pack.

Mini 4
Pack that consists of four items, one-third of the standard amount.
Examples: 86+ Star Player Mini Pack.

Small 6
Pack that consists of six cards, half the normal amount.
In these situations, the pack’s name always starts with ‘Small’.
Examples: Small Rare Gold Players Pack, Small Prime Silver Players Pack, Small Gold Pack.

Jumbo 24
Pack that consists of twenty-four items, double the standard amount. In these situations, the pack’s name always starts with ‘Jumbo’. Examples: Jumbo Gold Players Pack, Jumbo Silver Pack, Jumbo Rare Players Pack.

Mega or Ultimate 30
Pack that consists of thirty items. It’s the biggest FUT pack.
Examples: Ultimate Pack, Mega Pack, Rare Mega Pack.

Every rule has an exception, and that also happens with pack sizes. Although they seem rare, there are packs with 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 13, 14, 15, 20, 25, and 26 cards inside. Don’t worry because most of them are very easy to identify since they’ll always carry some reference of the number of cards inside the name: Two Rare Gold Players Pack, Gold 13 Pack, or Jumbo Premium Gold 26 Pack are a few examples.

Quantity of Rare Items

By definition, a basic pack consists of only one rare card. However, this number may be higher in some cases, and some packs will consist exclusively of rare players (the most expensive ones, of course).

Generally, relatively to the number of rare cards inside, the packs can be classified as:

Normal 1
The amount of rare items inside depends on the pack’s size: one for normal or small packs; three for jumbo packs.
In these situations, the pack’s name carries no information relative to the number of rare cards inside, which means that this second category is omitted.
Examples: Bronze Pack, Gold Players Pack, Small Silver Players Pack.

Premium 1/3
The amount of rare items inside still depends on the pack’s size: three for normal packs; seven for jumbo packs.
In these situations, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Premium’. Packs from special offers may also use the term ‘Premium’ referring to something of higher quality, like Premium Loan Player Packs or Premium Coins Packs. Examples: Premium Gold Pack, Jumbo Premium Gold Pack, Premium Mixed Players Pack.

Prime 1/2
The amount of rare items inside equals half the pack’s size/total amount of cards.
In these situations, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Prime’.
Examples: Prime Silver Players Pack, Small Prime Gold Players Pack, Prime Electrum Players Pack.

Rare all
The number of rare items inside equals the pack’s size/total number of cards, which means that all items are rare. In these situations, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Rare’. Examples: Rare Silver Pack, Rare Players Pack, Small Rare Mixed Players Pack

As you’ve noticed, a pack will never have more than one name of the same category. That’s why you’ll never see packs called Rare Premium or Prime Rare-something, for example.

If you’re an observant player, you’ve also noticed there aren’t any Small Premium ones. The reason is simple: they’re the same as the Small Prime ones. Haven’t you seen it? Let’s think: if a Premium Pack has 12 cards and 3 of them are rare, a Small Premium one would have the same number of rare cards with just six in the total. Since Prime Packs are known for having 50% of rare cards, there are three rare ones in them already.

Quality of Items

All the FIFA 23 cards are associated with one quality: gold, silver, and bronze. The packs are also classified according to the quality of the players inside. Also, the packs can receive another specific name if there are more than one quality items inside.

Generally, relatively to the quality of the cards inside, the packs can be classified as:

Gold all
Pack that consists exclusively of gold items.
In these situations, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Gold’.
Examples: Gold Pack, Gold Contracts Pack, Premium Gold Players Pack.

Silver all
Pack that consists exclusively of silver items.
In these situations, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Silver’.
Examples: Silver Pack, Silver Gift Pack, Small Silver Silver Pack.

Bronze all
Pack that consists exclusively of bronze items.
In these situations, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Bronze’.
Examples: Bronze Pack, Bronze Players Pack, Rare Bronze Players Pack.

Mixed 1/3
Pack that has items of all qualities divided equally.
In these situations, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Mixed’.
Examples: Mixed Players Pack, Rare Mixed Players Pack, Premium Mixed Players Pack.

Electrum 1/3
Pack that has gold and silver items divided equally. There are no bronze items.
In these situations, the name of the pack always includes the term ‘Electrum’.
Examples: Small Electrum Players Pack, Small Rare Electrum Players Pack, Prime Electrum Players Pack.

Different from the other categories, there must always be a reference to quality on the pack’s name.

Category of Items

As you probably know, there are five types of items in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: players, staff, consumables, vanity, and club items. Some packs are classified according to the category of cards inside.

Generally, relatively to the types of items inside, the packs can be classified as:

Normal all
Pack that consists of a mixture of all categories.
In these situations, the pack’s name carries no information relative to the types of cards inside. Therefore this fourth pack category is omitted.
Examples: Gold Pack, Gold Contracts Pack, Premium Gold Players Pack.

Players 1
Pack that consists exclusively of player items.
In these situations, the name of the pack always includes the term ‘Players’.
Examples: Silver Players Pack, Small Mixed Players Pack, and Rare Players Pack.

Consumables 1
Pack that consists exclusively of consumable items, including contracts and healing cards. Some packs consist exclusively of contracts.
In the first situation, the pack’s name always includes the term ‘Consumables’. In the second situation, it always includes the term ‘Contracts’.
Examples: Gold Contracts Pack, Consumables Pack, Mixed Contracts Pack.

As you can see, there are only three groups. No packs consist exclusively of staff, vanity, or club items.

Extra Categories

In some specific situations, packs can be launched with slight variations. Other terms are used to identify the content of a FUT pack better. These are the most common ones:

Leagues
Pack which all items are from players of a specific league.
Examples: Bundesliga Premium Players Pack, LaLiga Prime Players Pack, Serie A Three Players Pack.

Positions
Pack which all items are from players of a specific position.
Examples: Prime Gold Defenders Pack, Rare Gold Midfielders Pack, Rare Gold Forwards Pack.

Attributes
Pack that guarantees a specific rating for a specific face stat.
Examples: 82+ Passing Player Pack, 82+ Dribbling Player Pack, 82+ Pace Player Pack.

Rating
Pack which at least one player item has to be from a specific overall rating range: only one, if the name includes ‘Star’; two, if the name contains ‘Star Duo’; three, if the name contains ‘Star Trio’; all, in the other cases.
Examples: 82+ Rated Rare Player Pack, 85+ Star Rare Player Pack, 86+ Star Trio Players Pack.

Loan
Pack that consists exclusively of loan player items.
Examples: OTW Loan Player Pack, Loan LaLiga TOTS Pack, Loan Players Pack.

Untradeable
Pack that consists exclusively of untradeable items.
Examples: Untradeable 86+ Star Player Mini Pack, Untradeable Rare Players Pack, Untradeable Ultimate Pack.

Special
Pack which at least one player item must be IF or special, from a specific event.
Examples: Any TOTW Player Pack, FUT Birthday Foundation Pack, TOTY Loan Player Pack.

Player Pick
Pack that gives the chance to choose from several options.
Examples: 85+ Player PIck Pack, 80+ EFIGS Player Pick, 92+ Icon Moments Player Pick Pack.

Icon
Pack that consists of at least one Icon item. It usually specifies the type of Icon (base, mid, prime or prime moments).
Examples: Mid Icon Pack, 91+ Mid or Prime Icon Pack, 92+ Icon Moments Player Pack.

Preview
Pack that allows players to see the content before committing to a purchase.
Examples: Premium Silvers Pack, Prime Gold Players Pack, Rare Gold Pack.

How is composed a FUT pack name?

In most cases, a FUT 23 pack name follows a logical order of four categories: pack size, quantity, quality, and category items.

Can you give me examples?

Sure. Let’s start with the Small Prime Electrum Players Pack. The four categories we’ve talked about are being used here in the correct order. First, we have the size: Small, which means it has six items. Prime indicates that half of them are rare; so it has three rare items and three regular ones. Electrum means there will be gold and silver items, three of each. Finally, the term Players makes it a valuable pack because it’s exclusively made of players. Immediately a seemingly complicated name turns into something you can easily visualize: six players, half rare, three gold ones, and three silver ones.

Let’s take a look at another example: the Rare Gold Pack. As you can see, the size (the first category) isn’t mentioned here. Therefore we can say it’s a standard size pack of 12 items. In addition, the terms Gold and Rare indicate that all cards will be rare and gold. However, there’s no reference to which type of items will be inside (the fourth category). That means the twelve rare items inside will include players, staff, consumables, stadium, and vanity items.

These special items are released on the Headliners promo featuring a starter upgrade and boost in rating and stats every time they meet at least one of the following conditions, as stated on our FIFA 23 Headliners Tracker:

• Earn a TOTW or MOTM item;
• Their team win four domestic league matches in a row.

HOW IS CHOSEN THE TOTW OF FIFA 23

The TOTW is chosen with base on many factors, like league, goals scored, assists, match results and other stats.

The Team of the Week

Since FUT 10, every Wednesday, EA Sports selects a group of players of any category that have played well the previous week in real-life and join them in a single team. These cards are released as In Form for that week only and feature boosted stats. In the week a player gets his TOTW card in packs, it is impossible to find his regular card there. The TOTW players from the starting eleven also have their card art altered, with default images being replaced by special dynamic ones.

Except in rare cases, the TOTWs are released non-stop for a year, from September. All matches from the domestic leagues licensed in the game will likely result in a TOTW item. On the dates scheduled by FIFA for international qualifier matches, domestic leagues stop, and players can form TOTW from these matches (friendlies are not taken into account).

Most matches are played on the weekend, but no games are excluded just because they take place on a different day (yes, Monday or mid-week games can also receive these IFs). Players that stand out on a Tuesday or later days are candidates for the following week’s TOTW. When there are not many matches to be played, as, in July, the batch of selected players can be shortened to eighteen instead of the usual twenty-three.

Many people do not know how TOTW players of FIFA 23 Ultimate Team are chosen. That is why we have decided to release this guide clarifying how this is done.

How is Chosen

TOTW items are announced and released (almost) every Wednesday at 6pm (UK time). However, they begin to come to life much earlier.

Although EA does not reveal anything about TOTW backstage, the truth is that a few years ago, a game developer uncovered in an interview that his team met every Monday morning to make a first plan of what would be the team of the week. For this, and according to producer Niels Diekmann, they have the precious help of the weekly reports produced by an EA’s department based in Cologne (Germany): the FIFA Data Collection and Licensing Group.

As soon as the list of players is closed, it goes through several other departments until they reach the official social networks where they are announced: licenses, brand, QA testing, design, strategic partners, and marketing.

With the increasing importance of the TOTWs, more and more people try to predict the official choices. If you also want to do it, you should know the criteria EA uses to select the new cards:

• Goals Scored;
• Assists;
• Distribution by Positions;
• Match Results;
• Team’s and Player’s Popularity;
• Previous TOTW Items;
• Distribution by Rating;
• League;
• Opponent’s Difficulty;
• Conceded Goals;
• Saved Penalties;

Factors List

Let’s see one by one what affects the EA’s decision.

• Goals Scored
  This is the number one factor when deciding who enters the team of the week. After all, goals are the most important thing in football. Defenders that score more than one goal in a single match are almost guaranteed. On the other hand, the strikers may need more than one goal. Regardless of the player’s position, three or more goals are almost always a passport to the TOTW.


• Assists
  Except for goalkeepers, it is not common to see players who have not made any assist or scored a goal on the TOTW. The importance of assists is such that they are often analyzed together with goals in a single criterion (G & A).


• Distribution by Position
  Players playing in the same positions compete with each other for a limited number of spots. EA has set a minimum and a maximum amount of players for each position:
  – 2 to 3 goalkeepers (two in 80% of the time)
  – 4 to 6 defenders, regardless of whether they are full-backs or central-backs (five in 70% of the times)
  – 7 to 12 midfielders, regardless of whether they are wingers or central-midfielders (nine to eleven in 60% of the times)
  – 5 to 8 forwards, regardless of whether they are center-forwards or strikers (six to seven in 60% of the time).


• Match Results
  The better the result, the more chances a player has to be named to the team of the week. However, a draw does not leave him out. This happens mainly to players of inferior teams that manage to surprise the most popular ones.


• Team’s and Player’s Popularity
  The popularity of players and teams is increasingly taken into account. After all, the community likes to see in the TOTW the players they follow and not mere strangers. Sometimes, this popularity is not related to the biggest clubs or the best players but to the cards highly valued by the FUT community, such as the fastest players or the most OP in a particular edition.


• Previous TOTW Items
  When assigning a new TOTW card, EA always checks the amount of IF cards a player eventually already has and when he has received the latest card. If he has been awarded many times with these cards, priority will likely be given to other players. Also, if he has already received it two weeks before, most likely, he will have to wait for another time. And yes, it already happened for a player to be selected in two consecutive TOTWs, but it is extremely rare.


• Distribution by Rating
  EA tries to build teams as balanced as possible. Generally, the rating distribution of TOTW players follows these ranges:
  – five to eight 85+ rated cards;
  – ten to fourteen 80-84 rated cards;
  – three to five 75-79 rated cards;
  – up to two bronze or silver cards.


• League
  Everyone knows that the players from the most popular leagues are picked more often for the team of the week. This is the case for those who play in the Premier League, responsible for filling around 20% of the slots, even when the athletes are playing by their national teams. Serie A, LaLiga, and Bundesliga compete against each other to see which is the second league more represented in the TOTW, with around 12% each, while Ligue 1 stands at 8%. Still, there are always several leagues represented every week.


• Opponent’s Difficulty
  To be decisive in a win over Manchester City or Crystal Palace is not the same. This is also reflected in EA’s choices. The greater the achievement, the more chances a player has to receive a TOTW item.


• Conceded Goals
  This one also applies to defenders, but is more important for goalkeepers. A player in this position who has conceded goals will hardly be part of EA’s choices. If he scored a own goal, chances are virtually zero.


• Saved Penalties
  Nothing gives more visibility to a goalkeeper than saving a penalty. Those who achieve this and do not concede any goal are strong candidates for the Team of the Week.


• Saves
  Do not concede any goal, save a penalty, and make many saves. In this order, these are the main criteria used for selecting goalkeepers. Has anyone got all three? Jackpot!


• Stats and Score
  The specialized press and statistical sites, such as Whoscored, are also taken into account when EA is choosing the TOTW players. Whoever reaches a score of 10 does not have his spot guaranteed but gets closer to getting it.


• Man of the Match
  Moving slowly to the bottom of this list, it’s time to know the least important factors. Although with little relevance, it seems that, in some cases, EA uses the prizes awarded by domestic leagues to refine their choices.


• Minutes Played
  A player who gets in at ten minutes of the end must be brilliant (and decisive!) to convince EA. On the other hand, leaving the match earlier, few or no implications will have to the TOTW selections.


• Bookings
  A player has already been sent off and still made part of EA’s choices. However, this is very rare. The yellow cards do not seem to have any influence.


• Rivalry
  In addition to the opponent’s difficulty, EA also considers the rivalry between two teams on a much smaller scale. A player who decides a match in favor of his team against the main rival always gains more visibility.


• Other Restrictions
  More than a game, FIFA 23 Ultimate Team is a business. And like all big business, everything has to be planned in detail. The common player does not have the slightest idea of the many situations that must be planned daily to the point where they can condition the players selected to the TOTW. Hence, there are choices that we will never understand because they were forced to happen in the interests of the game’s producer and its strategic partners.

FIFA 23 WC END OF EVENT REWARDS

At the end of the WC event, you can exchange your time-limited World Cup Player items by rewards.

FIFA 23 World Cup Players

Players selected in the 32 national teams qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2022 will receive special items, starting from November 11 on the starter pack and ending on December 23.

You can earn additional red World Cup items in rewards, milestones objectives and repeatable SBCs. Selected packs on the FUT Store will be refreshed to offer World Cup player items in addition to the usual content.

You can mix these new items, which feature a blue timer icon in the bottom right, with your current squad. You can also use them to complete swaps, objectives and SBCs. However, they will be removed from your club at the end of your World Cup experience.

FIFA 23 World Cup Showdown items are boosted based on the results of selected real-world WC 2022 football matches.

World Cup Showdown

World Cup Showdown cards are unique items featuring improved ratings and stats, available exclusively via squad building challenges. This type of SBC highlights two players who are set to face each other in an upcoming World Cup 2022 football fixture.

The winner of the real-life match receives a +2 upgrade, while the loser does not get any boost. Both players receive a +1 rating and stats upgrade if the game ends tied. On knockout rounds, there are no ties. The winner is the team that wins on extra-time or penalty shootouts.

Showdown items feature dynamic images and improved stats and ratings. You cannot find them in FUT packs. To get these cards, you have to complete the respective SBC, which is available before the match for 48 hours.

The FIFA 23 WC Path to Glory event features the World Cup Hero items in packs, which can be upgraded based on the progress of their national teams in the competition (subject to confirmation)

The WC Path to Glory event is the first FUT promo dedicated to the World Cup Qatar 2022. It takes place in the two weeks before the competition.

Contrary to other editions, the FIFA 23 WC experience for FUT will not be a standalone mode this time. Instead, it will be heavily integrated into the current FUT ecosystem with a genuinely unique World Cup Ultimate Team experience, an entire season of daily content, including special player items, objectives and more.

Limited Time World Cup Items

Players selected in the 32 national teams qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2022 will receive special items, starting from November 11 on the starter pack and ending on December 23. You can earn additional World Cup items in rewards, milestones objectives and repeatable SBCs. Selected packs on the FUT Store will be refreshed to offer World Cup player items in addition to the usual content.

You can mix these new items, which feature a blue timer icon in the bottom right, with your current squad. You can also use them to complete swaps, objectives and SBCs. However, they will be removed from your club at the end of your World Cup experience. As compensation, depending on how many World Cup items you have (including duplicates), you will receive coins, packs and player picks. Themed Events

As you know, during the FUT cycle, EA releases new promo events almost every week or two weeks, depending on their duration. The FIFA World Cup 2022 won’t change this. Four new WC promos featuring special WC items are already confirmed for November and December:

Special World Cup Items

You can expect a lot of fresh World Cup content for FUT 23. This won’t be limited to free WC items and promo events. EA will release many themed objectives, squad building challenges and FUT Moments. World Cup Swaps

From November 11 to December 23, you will be able to start earning World Cup FUT Swaps tokens, which you can redeem for permanent pack content and special player items. A permanently upgraded WC Star Player item from each of the 32 nations at the FIFA World Cup will also make part of the rewards.

As usual, one token will be assigned for free when you log in, while the others can be earned in offline and online objectives that you can complete using World Cup Player items.

Icons and Heroes

The first two World Cup FUT promos will feature special versions of Hero and Icon player items.

During the Path to Glory campaign, World Cup Heroes will be available in FUT across two team releases, replacing the respective Base versions while in packs. Some WC Heroes will be exclusively available as player SBCs or objective rewards. If you pre-ordered the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition by August 21 at 11:59 p.m. PT, you will receive one of the twenty-one WC Heroes (untradeable), regardless of which team release they feature in, on the first day of this promo.

A selection of thirty-five World Cup Icons will feature on the Road to World Cup event. You will be able to earn them by opening FUT packs.

From November 9, you can download for free and play the FIFA 23 World Cup Expansion. This DLC doesn’t include Ultimate Team mode, but you have plenty of choices from where to choose:

Kick Off Mode

FIFA World Cup Kick-Off gives you the chance to play against friends locally or against the CPU AI. You’ll be able to play in any stage of the competition and choose a side from any of the 32 qualified teams, or from any other national team available in FIFA 23.

Play a kickoff match against friends locally, or against the AI. Select from Group Stage or a Knockout Round match, choose qualified or select available unqualified teams, and play a one-off local FIFA World Cup match.

Tournaments Mode

In Tournaments, you can take your team through the whole FIFA World Cup journey, from the first group stage match all the way to the final, potentially lifting the trophy at Lusail Stadium.

You’ll be able to customize your FIFA World Cup journey as the national teams featured in FIFA 23 that did not qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2022 can be swapped into a Custom FIFA World Cup Tournament. Be it winning a semi-final at Al Bayt or lifting the trophy at the Lusail, the atmosphere will be electric in the two authentically-recreated official stadiums in the FIFA World Cup modes.

Play as one of the 32 qualified nations in an authentic single-player recreation of the full FIFA World Cup 2022™ from the opening match onwards, or customize your tournament experience by changing groups and substituting in select teams that didn’t make it to the FIFA World Cup Finals in a Custom Tournament.

Online Tournament Mode

In Online Tournaments you can compete against other FIFA World Cup players. Pick any international team available in FIFA 23 and try to win against four online opponents in the FIFA World Cup knockout stages to claim the famous trophy.

In Online Tournament Mode, make your way through the Knockout Stages as any of the 32 qualified nations as you aim for FIFA World Cup glory against other players from around the world. Online Tournament cross-play will be available for players on the same platform generation.

Live Mode

As results start coming in after the opening match on November 20, the FIFA World Cup Live mode will be updated during the Group and Knockout Stage. Starting November 21, you’ll be able to monitor the progress of your favorite team inside the tournament and play through their fixtures in three different ways:

• Featured Quickplay
  Choose a past or current matchday and play an authentic single-player fixture with real-life line-ups against the CPU or a friend locally.
• Online Quickplay
  In Online Quickplay, you can choose the fixture you want to play against a friend online. If you or your friend’s supported nation didn’t qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2022 you can still face each other by choosing All National Teams and selecting any playable national team in FIFA 23. Accelerate was introduced in FIFA 23, exclusively for next-gen platforms. It defines how players move and run. This new feature is inspired by real-life differences between footballers, where even players with similar speeds can move very differently across the pitch.

Accelerate Types

Accelerate is an expansion to the player movement system, dividing players into three unique archetypes:

• Controlled
  Most players in FIFA 23 will fall into the Controlled type as they accelerate uniformly in a controlled manner.


• Explosive
  These players are quicker to start, but their acceleration rate slows down. They are shorter, more agile, and can quickly cover short distances and get ahead of their opponents, even if that means slowing down after the initial burst of acceleration.


• Lengthy
  These players start slower but will thrive over longer distances. They are taller, stronger, and need a bit more time to get going, but they can catch up to anyone and even surpass them, provided they have enough distance.

In short, Explosive players can likely do better at short distances and one-on-one situations than Lengthy players who will do better over long distances, such as in breakaways after a through ball behind the defense, for example.

Controlled, Explosive and Lengthy Players

At this point, you may ask what makes a player-controlled, explosive, or lengthy. EA doesn’t assign accelerate types player by player. Instead, they automatically determine players based on their Height, Agility, and Strength Attributes.

This is how the FIFA 23 Accelerate types are assigned:

Any player not meeting the other two requirements above has a controlled type.

The type a player is assigned to is determined before kick-off, so it’s important to note that it is affected by attribute changes that can happen before the match, such as Chemistry, but it is not impacted by attribute changes that occur once the game has started, like loss of stamina.

When the game is assigning Lengthy, Explosive, or Controlled before kick-off, it considers the player’s attributes after applying the Chemistry Styles boosts. This means that, for example, it’s possible for a player who would initially be assigned into the Controlled archetype to fit into the Lengthy archetype instead, as their boosted in-game attributes now make them eligible for the different type.

Not every player in the game can do this, though, as some attributes are just too low on some players to be able to fit them into a different type despite the boosts Chemistry Styles can bring. They also can’t change attributes such as height, which impacts the type.

How do I change the accelerate type?

As FIFA 23 accelerate is mainly based on Agility, Strength, and Acceleration, only Chemistry Styles that boost those Attributes can change a player’s Accelerate type.

If you want to make your player Explosive, you will need to use Chemistry Styles that impact their Agility, such as Finisher, Artist, and Engine.

If you want to make your player Lengthy, you will need to use Chemistry Styles that impact their Strength, such as Architect, Backbone, Sniper, Hawk, Marksman, Sentinel, and Anchor.
