It could snow in mountain catchments of the Eastern Cape next week.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said an intense cut off low system could bring along rain, snow and very cold temperatures, to the Eastern Cape, as from Wednesday into Friday.

As a result, temperatures are expected to drop to dramatically low single digits.

Joburg’s water systems are recovering, following maintenance, which began on Friday.

The Rabie Ridge Tower and Reservoir, as well as the President Park and Diepsloot, system, Randjiesslaagte, Constantia Tower, were critically low on Saturday.

Johannesburg Water (JW) confirmed that both Eikenhof and Zwartkopjes systems are pumping at 100% full.

The P53/1 between Pilanesberg International Airport and Mogwase, is closed.

The North West Department of Public Works and Roads said closure is due to a collapse of a culvert along the route, caused by heavy rains, earlier on in May.

The Department also said technicians conducted extensive investigations to assess the extent of the damage.
