Audible Bike Alarm

Today's experience makes me feel I need to upgrade my bike security, especially for cafe stops. My buddy locked our bikes together using a cafe lock - thin cable and a digital lock. This is all I carry. When we left he couldn't get it to unlock. A pair of pliers was produced and cut the cable in ten seconds at most. Has anyone got any real world experience with this particular rack/pannier combination? Although the bike l'm thinking of fitting it to has all the necessary frame eyelets etc, l do like simple approach of the Tailfin mounting. But l'm not sure 100% comfortable about the third party pannier adaptor and the way the panniers mount. Tailfin claim the same weight carrying capacity...
