A core team has now been established for the proposed new 5k parkrun in Carrigaline but they are still looking for additional volunteers.The next meeting will be held at 8pm in the Carrigaline Court Hotel on Thurs 12th Feb 2026."Everyone welcome — runners, walkers, supporters, curious locals. The annual Noreen McCarthy 10-mile and 5-mile road races in Skibbereen were held on Sunday 8th February 2026.In the 10-mile race, there were 75 finishers which is the same as 2025. The Cork BHAA J&J Innovative Medicine 5k was held in Little Island on Sun 8th Feb 2026 and attracted a field of 352 runners. This is the same race as the previous Janssen 5k as that company has changed its name to the parent company.The numbers are down about 15% on last year and as the chart shows above, it's a case of the numbers returning to the 2024 levels.  * Lifebuoy *Last Sunday I ran in Dungarvan at the John Treacy 10 mile race. First long run in 14 months. The sun shone and I was pleased. It was slow but honest, running every step of the way.
