The City of Keene Public Works Department announces the following construction and maintenance activities scheduled for the week of July 27, 2026. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones, follow posted signage, and expect minor delays.

Central Square
Beginning Monday, July 27, Liberty Utilities will continue installing a new gas main on the west side of Central Square and along West Street from Main Street to Federal Street. To safely complete this work, parking spaces on Central Square between Winter Street and West Street will be closed during active construction.

Traffic will be shifted within the active work zone, including periodic closures of the West Street slip lane. Detours will be in place as needed. Work is expected to continue throughout the week and is anticipated to take an additional two weeks to complete. Traffic and parking will be restored to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.

Marlboro Street
Beginning Monday, July 27, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers, will continue construction on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project by installing curbing and pouring sidewalks on Marlboro Street from Main Street to Eastern Avenue.

To safely complete this work, traffic will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic and/or shifted two-way traffic within the active work zone. Traffic will return to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.

Appel Way
Beginning Saturday, July 25, at 7:30 AM, the City’s contractor, Stripe It Seal, will apply a seal coat on Appel Way from Court Street to the NH Route 9 overpass.

To safely complete this work, access to Appel Way from Court Street and the trail within the work area will be closed. The work is expected to be completed, and the trail reopened, by noon.

Key Road
Beginning Monday, July 27, the City’s contractor, Park Construction, will continue installing a box culvert behind the Keene Cinema plaza.

To safely complete this work, parking areas and travel lanes within the parking lot will be restricted and/or detoured as necessary. Work is expected to continue throughout the week and is anticipated to take approximately three more weeks to complete.

George Street Bridge Replacement
Beginning Monday, July 27, the City’s contractor, New England Infrastructure, Inc., will install support-of-excavation systems (sheeting) and utilities.

George Street will remain closed, and traffic will be detoured for the duration of construction. The project is expected to take approximately four months to complete. Additional updates will be provided as work progresses.

Harrison Street
Beginning Monday, July 27, the City’s contractor, BC Construction, will continue excavation and the installation of curbing and sidewalks on Harrison Street.

Harrison Street will be closed to through traffic during construction. Work is anticipated to take approximately one week, weather permitting. Traffic will return to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.

Blossom Street
Beginning Thursday, July 30, the City’s contractor, BC Construction, will begin excavation and the installation of curbing and sidewalks on Blossom Street.

To safely complete this work, traffic through the active construction area will be maintained as alternating one-way traffic. Work is expected to take approximately two weeks, weather permitting. Traffic will return to normal operating conditions at the end of each working day.

Eastern Avenue and Transportation Heritage Trail Head
Beginning Monday, July 27, the City’s contractor, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance, will continue work on the Transportation Heritage Trail, including reconstruction of the trailhead and drainage improvements.

Trailhead parking will be closed throughout the week. This phase of work is expected to take approximately two weeks, with the overall project anticipated to be completed in September 2026.

City Hall Parking Garage
Beginning Sunday night, July 26, the top deck of the City Hall Parking Garage will be closed for approximately one week, weather permitting, while a protective traffic membrane is installed on the concrete surface.

Although the work will be performed overnight, the garage will remain closed during the day until the work is complete.

West Street (Westbound)
Beginning Monday, July 27, weather permitting, the City’s Highway Division will pave the westbound sidewalk on West Street between Pearl Street and the NH Route 12 overpass.

One westbound travel lane and the adjacent sidewalk will be temporarily closed within the active work zone. The work is expected to take one day, with traffic returning to normal at the end of the day.

West Street (Eastbound)
Beginning Tuesday, July 28, weather permitting, the City’s Highway Division will pave the eastbound sidewalk on West Street between Pearl Street and the NH Route 12 overpass.

One eastbound travel lane and the adjacent sidewalk will be temporarily closed within the active work zone. The work is expected to take one day, with traffic returning to normal at the end of the day.

Park Avenue
Beginning Thursday, July 30, weather permitting, the City’s Highway Division will excavate and repair a sinkhole near 30 Park Avenue.

Alternating one-way traffic will be maintained through the work zone. The work is expected to take two days, with normal traffic restored at the end of each working day.

Ward 4 (Highway Division)
Beginning Monday, July 27, the City’s Highway Division will perform roadside mowing and tree and brush trimming on City-maintained streets throughout Ward 4 as part of the 2026 WOW program.

Traffic may be maintained as alternating one-way traffic and/or shifted two-way traffic within the active work zones. Work is expected to continue throughout the week, with traffic returning to normal operations at the end of each working day.

Pako Avenue (Water & Sewer Division)
Beginning Thursday, July 30, at 7:00 AM, the City’s Water & Sewer Division will replace a fire hydrant at the intersection of Pako Avenue and Maple Avenue.

Pako Avenue will be closed to through traffic and detoured around the work area. The work is expected to take one day, with normal traffic restored at the end of the working day.

Public Works, 350 Marlboro Street
Beginning Monday, July 27, the City’s contractor, Bazin Brothers Trucking, will perform final cleanup of the Public Works parking lot at 350 Marlboro Street.

Visitor parking has been temporarily relocated to the parking lot adjacent to Bartholomew Court. The work is expected to be completed, and the parking lot reopened, by Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
