From 1939 to 1945, the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan oversaw the training of tens of thousands of pilots, air crews and instructors. It altered Canadian communities forever and helped the Allies win the war.

On 9/11, the United States closed its airspace worried about further attacks. That closed airspace meant hundreds of planes and thousands of passengers had to find a new destination.
Among them were 38 planes and 6,000 passengers who landed in the small Newfoundland community of Gander.

In 1956, the Suez Crisis erupted and threatened to drag humanity into a Third World War that could go nuclear.
That crisis was averted through thanks to the hard work of people like Lester B. Pearson through the creation of the UN Peacekeepers. For his efforts, Pearson won the Nobel Peace Prize.
