Collectors searching for everything from scarce Canadian banknotes and Victorian silver to Newfoundland gold and historic medals will find plenty to explore in The Canadian Numismatic Company’s 2026 Spring Sale, running June 3-7.

The five-session auction features more than 2,000 lots spanning Canadian and world coins, paper money, medals, tokens, bullion and collector accumulations. According to auctioneer Marc Verret, the sale was assembled to appeal to a broad cross-section of the hobby, from advanced specialists pursuing key rarities to newcomers building their first collections.

“We are pleased to welcome collectors, investors and numismatic enthusiasts to our 2026 Spring Auction Sale,” said Verret. “This exceptional event features an outstanding selection of Canadian coins and banknotes, highlighted by many desirable issues, alongside an extensive and carefully curated offering of world coins and world banknotes.”

Among the marquee offerings is a 1937 Bank of Canada $5 note carrying the Osborne-Towers signature combination. Certified Legacy Currency Grading Superb Gem Uncirculated-67PPQ, the note is expected to realize more than $25,000 and ranks among the finest examples of the popular issue to appear at auction in recent years.

Early Canadian paper money is particularly well represented. Collectors of Dominion of Canada notes will find an attractive selection, including a 1902 $4 note and a 1912 $5 note featuring the iconic train vignette. Both pieces are expected to attract strong bidding from paper money specialists.

Canadian coin collectors will also have several key pieces to watch. An 1888 50-cent piece, Obverse 2 variety, certified PCGS Choice EF-45, is among the standout Victorian issues in the sale. The variety remains a favourite among specialists and advanced collectors of Canada’s silver coinage.

Lot 327 is an 1882H Newfoundland $2 gold coin certified PCGS Mint State-61 and estimated at more than $1,000.

Gold collectors will have opportunities as well, including an 1882H Newfoundland $2 gold coin certified Mint State-61. Newfoundland gold issues continue to enjoy strong demand, particularly for certified examples with original surfaces and attractive eye appeal.

One of the more unusual offerings is believed to be an original mint bag containing 100 Canadian silver dollars dated 1965. Such accumulation lots have become increasingly popular as both bullion and collector demand for Canadian silver coinage remains strong.

The auction also includes a substantial group of 56 ICCS-certified Canadian coins spanning nearly seven decades, from 1957 through 2025. Featuring grades ranging from MS-63 to MS-67, the lot offers collectors a ready-made certified collection covering numerous denominations and several variety issues.

Session one features several historically significant medallic pieces. Among them is an E.L. Patenaude Lieutenant Governor of Quebec medal accompanied by original artwork and a related plaster sculpture. The grouping provides a fascinating glimpse into the artistic process behind medal production and is expected to appeal to both medal collectors and students of Canadian history.

Another unusual lot comes from the estate of former Governor General Ramon Hnatyshyn. The grouping includes specimen gold, silver and bronze medals struck for the 1994 Commonwealth Games and presented with engraved plaques by Henry Birks & Sons.

Collectors of United States coinage will also find noteworthy material, including an 1800 Draped Bust silver dollar graded Fine or better. More than two centuries after its issue, the coin remains one of the most recognizable and desirable early American silver dollars.

The sale concludes June 7 with a dedicated Canadian banknote session, capping off five days of bidding that offer collectors a diverse mix of rarities, historical pieces and collector favourites from Canada and around the world.
