私の学生時代はメンデルの遺伝の法則は高校の生物で初めて習いました。生物の授業でメンデルがしたことにすごく感動して、私も確かめてみたいと、学校帰りに種屋さんに寄ってインゲンマメの種子を買い部屋で育て始めました。１つの鉢に１０個ほどまいたでしょうか。寒い時期でしたが、芽は出たんです。５ｃｍほどの丈まで育ったのは覚えていますが、その後はどうなったか定かではありません。
　それがきっかけで生物が好きになり、大学では教育学部の理科教員養成課程で学びました。そして今に至っています。今はインゲンマメは育てていませんが、ミニトマトと枝豆を毎年育てています。
