According to research by Dr. Karen Blair at St. Francis Xavier University, those of us who perceive more support for our relationships report experiencing better relationship well-being, as well as less mental and physical health challenges than those without support for their relationships.

Researchers also found that support from friends was deemed even more important than support from family members, as it more significantly impacted relationship well-being and health outcomes. It can be incredibly stressful to feel like those you love most in the world are judging your relationship, but it can be extremely validating when they approve and are excited about it.

“If your current friends disapprove of your relationship, it might be worthwhile finding out why, seeing if you can change their minds, seeing if there’s something about your relationship that needs your attention, or perhaps making a decision to spend more time with friends who are supportive of your relationship,” Dr. Blair says.

The idea of dating a sibling’s ex may seem taboo, but it’s not unheard of

When someone in your life is vocal about their disapproval of your relationship, however, it doesn’t mean that they always have a valid reason. Whether or not it’s appropriate to date a sibling’s ex depends on various factors. And this family is certainly not the only one who has ever found themselves in a sticky situation like this. But according to HerNorm, there are ways to help manage the tension between a sibling and their ex/possible future sibling in law. First, it’s recommended to speak to them honestly about the situation and understand how important the relationship is to them. Remember not to compare yourself to your sibling either, and find healthy ways to manage your emotions. As much as you may want to center yourself, their relationship likely has nothing to do with you.

Remember why your relationship with this person ended, and don’t romanticize it. Clearly, it wasn’t perfect, so don’t assume that you’ve lost something. Instead, try to be happy for your sibling, and find a way to make peace with the situation. And if you find it necessary, get some space from your sibling and our ex, and take enough time to heal.

According to the historian, it is crucial for people to learn about history because it is the story of humanity, in all its good and bad forms. “For us to understand our present moment and move forward positively into the future, it is important to reflect on how we got here. Those with historical training are able to critically analyze the world around them, formulate arguments based on evidence, and debate persuasively and coherently. It also allows you to keep an open mind to new source material and perspectives.” Aitken-Burt explained that these skills hold significance not just in any occupation but also in our broader responsibilities as community members. It's essential to recognize that progress doesn't always follow a straightforward path, and we should remain attentive to this fact. “Not only this, history as a discipline is also just really interesting and full of fascinating stories that can resonate with us today – we all have a curiosity about the thoughts, feelings, living conditions, and events that our ancestors lived through,” she added.

Have you ever come across stories from the past that you find really interesting or useful for people today? As we reflect on the past, we often discover remarkable events and figures whose lessons and inspirations can be applied to our modern lives. For Aitken-Burt, there are too many to choose from! “I’m particularly interested in the evolution of myths and the ways in which stories are told through time, specifically the ways in which the classical past was used to legitimize modern empire-building. I’m also interested in uncovering ‘hidden histories’, or rather histories that have been deliberately obscured and/or ignored for a long time in archives and source material such as the stories of women, the working class, the enslaved, and LGBTQ+ communities.”

Talking about inspiring figures, Aitken-Burt highlighted Christine de Pizan as a particularly intriguing figure. “It is one of the first women in Europe to write and publish a book in the early 15th century. Her Book of the City of Ladies criticized the erasure of positive female stories in history from the archives – something which is still important today over 600 years later!”

In today's digital age, social media platforms have become powerful tools for education, connecting people across the globe with a wealth of information and ideas. But how do these social media platforms contribute to history education and what should we think about when using them to learn? “We now live in a world where images, videos and photography dominate the media we consume. I think social media can help to inspire interest in historical sites and objects and can potentially encourage people to seek further information,” Aitken-Burt shared. However, there are some concerns that need to be taken into consideration – “many websites are unreliable and the use of algorithms to push certain content towards you can be problematic, particularly if you are unaware of how to analyze such content and just take the information at face value. This can quickly lead to emotional reactions that are devoid of any real historical nuance or understanding.

The rise of AI-generated images will cause increased skepticism. Whilst doctored and staged photos are nothing new, the increased realism of these potentially beyond the control of the initial user is a cause for concern.”

According to Aitken-Burt, referencing has always been key in historical studies. The ability to comprehend the content, nature, origin and purpose of any source material is fundamental for a historian. “Provenance is everything,” she explained. “When trying to learn further information about historical periods, stick to museum websites, clips from well-researched documentaries and, of course, published books. Remember that any interpretation of history will use different sources, emphasis and tone which will affect the message you receive. Historians will always be trying to think of additional or omitted source material from an argument, any perspectives that are being overlooked and the style of language being used.”

Ellie Goldstein, a model with Down syndrome, is a perfect example of that – the 21-year-old’s smile is winning the hearts of internauts and fashion designers all over the world.

21-year-old Ellie is a model that redefines beauty standards

Ellie was born on a cold day in December, 2001. Prior to her birth, all tests and scans showed no anomaly, so doctors and her parents were shocked to discover that Ellie had Down’s syndrome and heart problems that required lifesaving surgery. This came as a huge shock to her mum, Yvonne, who initially struggled to bond with baby Ellie, so for the first few weeks, her dad Mark took care of her, changing nappies, soothing her to sleep and getting in those baby cuddles. He told Yvonne “We’ll take it one day at a time” and they did.

Doctors told the new mom that she might want to give her baby up, which made her quite nervous about getting close to Ellie. “I couldn’t really bond. I’d think: “What’s the point of getting close? She’s not going to be here for long,” she told in an interview. Doctors didn’t give Ellie’s parents any hope. But her maternal instincts took over when little Ellie began responding to her parents with a gummy smile.

Yvonne struggled to look at her daughter’s face that had tell-tale signs of Down’s features, but soon she recognized how uniquely beautiful her new daughter was. So beautiful, she would soon grace numerous covers of fashion magazines, such as Elle and Glamour and even the legendary Vogue.

When she was born, doctors told her parents she would “never walk or talk”

“I’ll never forget the doctor who marched into my room after the birth holding her up and saying: ‘This is Ellie, she’s got Down’s syndrome. She won’t walk or talk. She won’t go to university’,” her mom recalled the fear-filled first days of Ellie’s life. I wonder what those doctors think of it now, seeing Ellie thriving.

With the help of her parents, Ellie battled illness and survived a difficult heart surgery. By her third birthday, she was already speaking in sentences, and by the time she was ready to attend school, she could go to mainstream state school. Little Ellie learned to read thanks to her love of Topsy And Tim books. Unfortunately, school wasn’t just sunshine and rainbows. Children were inclusive, but the parents and even the headteacher weren’t fond of Ellie, which prompted her parents to look into special needs schools.

“We’d looked around some of the special needs schools and the children just weren’t as able as Ellie, so we knew it was better for her to be around kids she could look up to and copy their behaviors,” Yvonne recalled.

Ellie struggled with math – a horrible subject, if I may say so – but by the time she was 11, an assessment showed that she had a reading age of 18. She successfully progressed to secondary school – that’s when her parents explained to her that she had Down’s. Yvonne was very worried how it would affect Ellie – she loved seeing her daughter looking in the mirror and saying, “I’m perfect”.

At the suggestion of the school’s counsellor, Ellie’s parents got her a picture book about Down’s syndrome. Ellie looked at it thoroughly and told her mom “I don’t look like that. I’m me.” Now that’s a beautiful sentiment – everyone is different, and we should all strive to be able to look in the mirror and say “I don’t have to look like anybody. I’m me”.

Her further academic journey was troubled, as she received no support. But there was a silver lining – her modelling career began at the same time. Her mom’s friend suggested they contact Zabedee, an inclusive talent agency that represents people with disabilities and visible differences. Ellie attended a trial photoshoot that went well – so well that she was added to the agency’s books in 2016.

Her positive outlook on life brightens every room she walks in

Eight months after her initial signing, Ellie was featured in Superdrug’s Christmas advert. After that followed a photoshoot with Gucci – the post attracted over 7000 comments. Most of them were kind and supportive but of course there were some nasty trolls who weren’t taught the golden rule “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”.

Despite her incredible achievements, Ellie is not as independent as most 21-year-olds; that’s why her mom steps in and never lets her leave the house without her parents or her sister. She even accompanies her on dates: “She loves the boys,” the mom teased her daughter.

A modelling career can be a vulnerable place for anyone, especially a young woman with Down’s. Yvonne keeps a close eye on Ellie’s Instagram account, deleting any inappropriate messages. No one is safe from the creeps!

Ellie’s parents don’t know whether she will ever be able to live alone, but they encouraged her to buy her own home. At 21, she is a proud owner of a home in Essex – bought with her own money she earned from modelling assignments. Her own home is a perfect place to rest and relax after a grueling day at college – Ellie is studying arts on top of her job. “I’d like to tell that to the doctor who said I’d never walk or talk!” Ellie proudly talks about her achievements.

Ellie’s story is a shining example that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and that no one can stop a determined person. After all, when we think of models, we think of someone who looks stunning in high fashion outfits and has a smile as bright as the sun – Ellie sure does.

People in the comments were cheering for the young model

People have been fascinated with extraterrestrial life for decades. From famous science fiction films like Ridley Scott’s Alien and Steven Spielberg’s ET to conspiracy theories about government cover-ups at a US military base known as Area 51, the idea of not being alone in the vast universe is gaining more and more adherents.

In fact, many claim to have witnessed UFOs flying in the night sky or encountered extraterrestrial beings, uploading their videos or sharing their hair-raising stories on social media.

The latest event reflecting the desire for answers regarding extraterrestrial life occurred earlier this month when journalist and ufologist Jaime Maussan presented two alien-like creatures to the Mexican Congress.

According to Dr. José Zalce Benítez, the two alien-like corpses have no relation to human beings and could not be described by “science or human knowledge”

In a recent study, the “alien corpses” were found not to have any relation to human beings.

After unveiling the so-called extraterrestrials on September 13, Mr. Maussan said, speaking under oath at the San Lazaro Legislative Congress: “These specimens are not part of our terrestrial evolution. These aren’t beings that were found after a UFO wreckage. They were found in diatom mines and were later fossilized.”

The journalist continued, “This is the first time it is presented in such a form, and I think it is a clear demonstration that we are dealing with non-human specimens that are not related to any other species in the world.”

Maussan also expressed that people have a right to know about “non-human entities” and that “we are not alone in the vast universe.”

Additionally, the ufologist claimed that the mummified corpses had been retrieved from Cusco, Peru, and were about 1,000 years old.

The session came two months after a former U.S. Air Force Intelligence officer stood in Congress and claimed that the United States has known of “non-human activity” since the 1930s.

Scientists conducted research on the bodies which included X-ray scans, DNA tests, and radiocarbon dating

According to Maussan, the data was obtained from a study conducted by the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) in which scientists extracted DNA samples and used radiocarbon dating.

Since the mentioned tests raised doubts among the population, new studies have recently been conducted by experts at the Noor Clinic to evaluate the legitimacy of Maussan’s words.

The director of the Health Sciences Research Institute in the secretary of the Mexican Navy’s office, Dr. José Zalce Benitez, concluded that both figures belonged to single skeletons and had, therefore, not been assembled or manipulated.

His most shocking conclusion was that the specimens had no relation to human beings.

“Based on the DNA tests, which were compared with more than one million species, they are not related to what is known or described up to this moment by science or by human knowledge,” Zalce Benitez stated.

Analyzing an X-ray scan, the doctor even claimed that one of the specimens, nicknamed Clara, was “in gestation” at the time of death based on a lump on her abdomen that could allegedly contain eggs.

When describing the “aliens,” he said that they lacked teeth and only drank instead of eating food. They also had big eyes, which “allowed for wide stereoscopic vision.”

Still, numerous experts continue to cast doubt on the findings.

One of them is physics professor Brian Cox, who remains skeptical about the so-called alien corpses. “They are very humanoid. It’s very unlikely that an intelligent species that evolved on another planet would look like us,” he wrote on X.

“Secondly, send a sample off to 23andMe,” the most comprehensive ancestry testing company in the world, “let alone the university down the road — and they’ll tell you within 10 minutes,” the academic continued.

The British physicist responded to a mother who shared a photo of her son’s papier mâché school art project, saying the kid’s creation was “a more plausible alien.”

But Cox isn’t alone. Harvard professor and astronomer Abraham Avi Loeb, in charge of the university’s Astronomy Department, requested that the Mexican government allow his scientists to study the figures.

The studies also faced criticism from national scientists. Julieta Fierro, a researcher at the Institute of Astronomy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, pointed out that scientists would require more advanced technology than the X-rays they allegedly used to reach their conclusions, given that the bodies were calcified.

So, what are the alien-like bodies if they are neither papier mâché figures nor extraterrestrials? According to forensic archaeologist Flavio Estrada, who analyzed the mummified corpses, what was displayed was actually “creations made from animal and human bones held together with synthetic glue,” which have been covered in fake skin.

Experts agree that the bodies were manipulated Nazca mummies that have been altered to deceive the public and spread misinformation.

As Banks revealed, the father of a girl who used to turn her life into misery at school is among the list of her adult content subscribers.

“The girl from my hometown who tried to ruin me. Her dad just subscribed to me,” read the overlay text on a TikTok video uploaded by the Australian model where she’s seen dancing frantically in her garden.

Given that she and the bully’s dad reside in the same small town, it appears unlikely that the man didn’t know who she was before deciding to purchase her content.

Onlyfans— an online platform launched in 2016 where people pay for sexually explicit photos, videos, and live streams via monthly memberships—has a reputation for being a lucrative way for many women to make money. In an interview with Mamamia, Banks revealed that she made $3,000 during her first month by posting content on the adult site.

Four years later, the mother of two has made over $1 million on the site.

Her decision to join the platform stirred controversy among her loved ones. “I had family members that didn’t talk to me for 18 months,” she shared. ”I fell out of my entire friend group. It was really hard, and there was a time when I was like, ‘What have I done?’”

It sometimes feels like diet culture has permeated every aspect of our lives. We’re supposed to dress in ways that make us look thinner and work out twice as hard after indulging in a slice of birthday cake. If there’s a lower calorie option, it’s the right choice, regardless of how bland and unsatisfying it is!

But just because diet culture exists doesn’t mean everyone who wants to lose some weight is guilty of perpetuating toxic ideas. Below, you’ll find a story that one woman recently shared on Reddit, detailing how she had to shut down a friend’s girlfriend for making assumptions about her mental health.

Getting a proper eating disorder diagnosis requires an evaluation from a professional

Eating disorders are more common than many of us realize. According to the National Association Of Anorexia Nervosa And Associated Disorders (or ANAD), eating disorders impact at least 9% of the global population, affecting people of every age, race, size, gender and background. Less than 6% of people diagnosed with eating disorders are actually medically underweight, and women with physical disabilities are more likely to develop eating disorders than their peers without disabilities.

Eating disorders are certainly a prevalent issue that many of us could benefit from having more education on, but that does not mean anyone can simply go around diagnosing their friends. According to Healthline, an eating disorder diagnosis typically includes a physical exam, laboratory tests and psychological evaluations.   

The most important of these, however, are the psychological evaluations. It is key for a doctor to understand how the patient perceives their own body, what their eating habits are and what their attitudes are surrounding food and eating. To receive a diagnosis, they must then meet specific criteria linking them to an eating disorder, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, ARFID or eating disorders not otherwise specified.

Dieting does not always mean there’s an eating disorder present

So is it possible to diet without developing an eating disorder? Well, some people realize that they need to remove certain foods or food groups from their diet due to an allergy or intolerance. And others might decide to remove animal products for ethical reasons. But according to Within Health, where it can get complicated is when we start dieting specifically to lose weight.

They explain that dieting with the goal of losing weight is often counterproductive, as it can result in weight cycling and increasing a person’s risk of chronic diseases. What seems to be more effective is encouraging and developing healthy behaviors, such as getting enough sleep, eating well-balanced meals, reducing stress and increasing physical activity.

Losing weight isn’t always a bad thing either. 39% of adults around the world are overweight, and 13% are obese, Our World in Data reports. Obesity is also one of the leading risk factors for premature death, so for many of us, dropping a few pounds could greatly benefit our health. One 2021 study from the UK found that adults who lost 10% of their body weight or more (and were able to keep it off) reduced their risk of developing a chronic disease by up to 41%.

Losing weight can actually increase many people’s quality of life

WebMD writes that losing even 5% of your weight can lower your risk of developing arthritis, as less weight means less strain on your joints. You can reduce your risk of developing cancer by being at a healthy weight as well, and you can prevent yourself from getting Type 2 Diabetes.

Losing weight can lower your LDL, or “bad” cholesterol too, and reduce your blood pressure as well, if you’re prone to having high blood pressure. Weight loss even alleviates sleep apnea symptoms for some and might help you sleep better and longer. Overall, you might even have more energy and find yourself in a better mood after shedding some of those extra pounds.

Living in a constant state of feeling like you need to lose weight probably isn’t great for your mental health. But if you have a valid reason for wanting to trim down a little, and you maintain a healthy view of your body and food, it’s nobody else’s business how much you eat. "As the account has grown, we’ve been able to not just show some of the amazing treasures from across the 5 boroughs, but also incredible stooping successes, also giving followers a peak into how New Yorkers live," they said.

The couple running the project highlighted the fact that they're very careful about what stooped items they feature on the account.

"We try our best to only post pieces that look like they are still in decent condition and could be great for a new home," they told Bored Panda.

"In addition, we stay away from things like mattresses, knowing that we don’t have the full history and want to ensure that the items people grab are fit to be rehomed."

The idea behind stooping is a fairly straightforward one. Essentially, when you’ve grown tired of a piece of furniture, item of decor, or anything else in your home, you bring it outside and place it on the curb.

Then, strangers will walk by, eye the stooped items, and take anything that they really like with them, giving these things a chance at a second (or third, or fourth!) life. The ‘Stooping NYC’ project documents the most impressive finds and also helps spread the word about some of the freshest treasures that folks noticed around the metropolis.

Nearly 8.5 million people live in New York City as of 2023, which means that lots of furniture and random stuff gets thrown out and adopted every single day. Having a project like ‘Stooping NYC’ pinpointing the best, quirkiest, and most unique items is invaluable.

At the time of writing, ‘Stooping NYC’ had 459k followers on Instagram. However, as the project continues to grow by leaps and bounds since its creation in 2019, more people spot these tips in the page’s stories. And so the competition for each item becomes even fiercer than before. You’ve got to be incredibly agile if you want to claim the crème de la crème.

"Stooping is so popular in NYC because it really is an activity that’s built into the culture of being a New Yorker. Unlike other cities, New York is transient and that means that people are always moving. No one apartment is quite like another, and so this activity of putting items that no longer fit/serve a need is something that has long existed," the couple behind ‘Stooping NYC’ shared with Bored Panda during an earlier interview.

According to the project founders, they tried to gamify stooping, turning it into a scavenger hunt of sorts. Back in 2021, they shared that on a typical weekday, they’d get hundreds, sometimes even a thousand submissions about stooped stuff from their followers. This number of messages has only increased as the account drew in additional fans.

The couple told Bored Panda that their followers tend to love “anything high value, super colorful, unique, and weird.” They said that this means they prioritize everything from “beautiful velvet couches, neon-colored swivel chairs, copper claw-foot tubs, beanie baby collections” to pastel pink SMEG fridges and even VHS tapes from the bygone ‘90s.

"We both really love the creative outlet this gives us, as a couple we love the fact that we have this together (we end each day with a 'stoop review'), and more than anything we love the community we have built. "Early on, we found a beautiful antique typewriter on the stoop that we brought home for a friend. But aside from that, we really stick to the 'Stoop Laws' we have created: we never go get something before it’s been posted, we only post what’s already out on the stoop and we never hold items for specific stoopers,” they said.

"On a daily basis though, there are items we post that we absolutely would love to be lucky enough to get (if we ever had a place large enough to fit it all),” the couple said.

During another interview with Bored Panda, the dynamic duo said that they absolutely love the community that formed around their Instagram account. “We love this community and the positivity it puts out into the world." They added that the growth of the project has been amazing and gives them “so much joy.”

The couple also shared their thoughts on why folks follow the page. "From those who follow us and stoop as a means to save items from landfills, to those grabbing goods out of nostalgia (having thrifted as kids), to people who want the most unique apartments with money-can't-buy pieces, to those who love the gamification of a real-time scavenger hunt across the city,” they said.

A video of a young woman having a heated argument on board an American Airlines plane has recently gone viral. Upon noticing she was being recorded, the passenger defiantly shouted, “Film me! I’m Instagram famous, you f*** bum.”

The 20-second clip shows the woman arguing with a fellow flier while removing her carry-on suitcase from the overhead compartment.

“Call me a b*** again; I did nothing wrong,” the passenger, believed to be model Morgan Osman, said to the other flier. 

When someone told her to be quiet, Morgan answered back, “No, you shut the f*** up! You shut the f*** up, and your b***.”

While people believed that she had been kicked off the aircraft, the model insisted that she decided to leave before the situation “turned violent.”

After the dispute, she began to walk down the aisle in her gray catsuit and eyed a cell phone that was being pointed in her direction. “Film me! I’m Instagram famous, you f***ing bum,” she told the social media user who was capturing the odd moment.

On her Instagram account, which was suspended a couple of days alter, Morgan denied being kicked off  the plane and told her followers that she had decided to leave “instead of it turning violent.”

A few days earlier, on September 10, two intoxicated sisters were filmed at Newark Liberty International Airport. The pair are seen becoming aggressive upon being told they are not permitted to board an Aer Lingus flight to Ireland due to their state.

“I’m not going to let you down. We’re going to Dublin!” one of the sisters reassured the other.

Karen, a lawyer, threatened security officers by claiming they would face negative consequences if they didn’t allow them onto the aircraft.

The incident resulted in the two women being dragged by security officers. While the blonde woman was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, her sister was given a criminal summons for disorderly conduct.

In a similar situation, a woman aboard a Dallas flight threw a tantrum after claiming one of the passengers wasn’t “real”

Both of these videos were reminiscent of another viral clip that resurfaced in July and took place on a plane departing from Dallas Fort Worth airport.

The scene shows another young woman having a meltdown on board an American Airlines flight and claiming that one of the passengers wasn’t actually real.

“I’m telling you, I’m getting the f*** off, and there’s a reason why I’m getting the f*** off. Everyone can believe it, or they can not believe it,” the distressed flier said to the crowd as she headed toward the front of the plane.

“I don’t give two f***s, but I’m telling you right now, that m*****f***** isn’t real,” she said while pointing to the back of the aircraft.

“And you can sit on this plane, and you can die with them or not. I’m not going to.”

The odd scenes have sparked a debate about whether people act a certain way in the hopes of becoming viral

According to the TikTok user who shared the video, the dramatic scene delayed the flight by three hours and ended with the woman exiting the plane.

Claiming to be the upset passengers, a Twitter user called Tiffany Gomas uploaded a video in which she reflected on her behavior and addressed social media users, who had mockingly nicknamed her “Crazy Plane Lady.”  

“I want to take full accountability for my actions. They were completely unacceptable. Distressed or not, I should’ve been in control of my emotions,” she expressed in a video before apologizing to all passengers who were affected by her meltdown.

The woman never clarified who she was, referring to when she pointed to the back of the plane.

Coffee shops have become an essential part of any communities. People savor delicious pastries there, use free WIFI for work whilst hiding from weird upstairs neighbors who keep drilling or breakdancing loudly, or simply enjoy the moment with a warm drink. Tom Oswald, who is just 18 years old, decided he wanted to have such a place of his own – a café for art and coffee. Sadly, in the initial days, there were no customers. But it looks like the tide is about to change with the power of the internet.

Opening a business is a daunting adventure, especially to a young person who just started the journey of adulthood. Prior to opening his business, he worked in a local coffee shop where he practiced his coffee making and latte art skills. He wasn’t very good at first, but he worked hard and eventually learned to draw intricate swans with milk. I do strongly believe that any drink tastes better with a nice art on it!

One day, an incredible opportunity presented itself – his ex-neighbor had a paint shop with enough room for a coffee shop in it. Despite initial reservations, he decided to take a leap of faith – after all, the best time to do something is right now. The young man understood the importance of mentors and tried talking to many people in the industry, learning from them. With the help of his dad, he found a few mentors who were excited to show him the ropes of this business.

His next step was market research – he went to as many cafes as he could and observed the process. He dutifully noted what made them good and what he would take away to his business. And, of course, he had to try their tasty treats – any drink goes better paired with a fresh pastry.

After a lot of tasty research, Tom decided he too wanted treats in his shop. Luckily, he found the supplies that met his standards and was one step closer to fulfilling his dream.

Once the coffee shop was set up, Tom practiced some more, making numerous coffees and perfecting his art. Soon, the big day came – it was the opening day! All his hard work and dedication was going to pay off with the first happy customer. Unfortunately, no one showed up. This was a heartbreaking experience, but Tom wasn’t going to give up. The next day he’d try again. And the next day. And the next day too.

Still, in the initial days, only a few of his friends and family showed up who tried to cheer Tom up. The young entrepreneur set up a TikTok account to document his café journey. He didn’t expect it to become a ticket to success.

Many of us who frequent coffee shops wonder what happens behind the scenes, how a café comes to be that magical place where coffee is always good, and baristas are always smiling. Tom took viewers on a journey, showing how he sets up the café and how opening and closing looks from the insider’s point of view.

His videos were rather cinematic, showing rainy days and art inside the café. Tom maintained a positive attitude, acknowledging that quiet days allow him time for reflection and research. Everything is a lesson if you are willing to learn and Tom certainly was willing.

As things started looking up, Tom decided that his business needed a name. The café was initially called Thiele’s Shop, the name of the place it was located in. However, it wasn’t personal to Tom. He wanted to make it his own and that’s how “Homeboy” café was born.

Another milestone followed thereafter – Tom got his first reservation, a significant milestone for his fledgling business. He recorded himself carefully setting up a cozy corner for his customers, attention to detail making us want to make a reservation too.
