With Child & Youth Mental Health Day in May, there’s often more attention on how children experience emotions—and how different that can look from what adults expect.
That difference tends to show up in everyday moments.
There’s a moment a lot of parents recognize.
You ask a simple question—“What happened?” or “Are you okay?”—and instead of an answer, everything goes quiet.
They look away.
They shrug.
Maybe they leave the room.
Most parents don’t wake up one day and label their child’s behaviour as “bad.”
It usually builds.
A pattern starts to repeat. Reactions feel bigger than expected. The same situations keep leading to the same struggles.
