I have a 20 gallon long tank with 4 tetras in it. Hang on back filter. The tank develops green algae on the inside of the tank glass frequently and I have to clean it off about every two weeks. I've been out of the hobby for a while. In the past I've done both fresh and salt water but it's been at least 8 years since I had a tank. We got my granddaugher a small (5 gal) tank for Christmas and put some Glow Fish and a Mystery Snail in it. The bug has bit me again!

I'm looking for some extra opinions on the viability of a very small freshwater micro-aquarium for tiny creatures like Daphnia, Scuds, Copepods, Ostracods, and maybe some sort of tiny snails like Bladder or MTS. Is this a good tank mate in a 20 gallon tall heavily planted tank? I’m going to order baby female betta from a breeder and have the brisstlenose in their first. I don’t think the betta will be much of an issue, I’ve heard pleco sucked the slime coat off a betta, is this possible for the pleco to hurt the betta, or is it pretty safe match? I've had fish die before, mostly due to age. But recently, had a big die-off in my planted 29 gallon tank. 3 of the fish were old and I'd expected them to go at sometime, but not all 3 together, and then 5 of the smaller ones.
