Steve Jobs will be memorialized in the National Garden of American Heroes

Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs will be memorialized in a National Garden of American Heroes, with a statue of the visionary set to join hundreds of others in the park once it is constructed.

The order, issued on Monday, is a revision to an earlier order to establish a statuary park named the National Garden of American Heroes, and the creation of an "Interagency Task Force for Building and Rebuilding Monuments to American Heroes." The new order outlines more of President Donald Trump's plans for the garden, and what to expect within it."The National Garden will be built to reflect the awesome splendor of our country's timeless exceptionalism," the order states. "It will be a place where citizens, young and old, can renew their vision of greatness and take up the challenge that I gave every American in my first address to Congress."

Apple features iPad project led by Las Vegas teacher Mike Lang

Parler lurching back to life, still absent from Apple App Store, Google Play

Controversial social media venue Parler is showing signs of life on a new hosting platform, but has not resumed service or appeared on Apple's or Google's platforms.

The controversial social media app Parler was kicked off of Amazon servers, the Google Play Store, and Apple App Store after the riots in the Capitol on January 6. Evidence cited by Amazon, Apple, and Google demonstrated that the app was being used to plan the event and hosted significant amounts of hate speech and extremist content before being de-platformed.

Foxconn gets green light for $270M factory in Vietnam

Foxconn is set to build a new factory to produce tablets and computers in Vietnam, which could be part of Apple's plan to widen its iPad and MacBook production lines outside of China.

Set to be located in the northern province of Bac Giang, the government said it is expected the facility will produce eight million units of products per year, with it chiefly made up of notebooks and tablets. Since Foxconn is a major assembly partner for Apple, it is possible some of this production could be for iPads and MacBooks.In November, it was claimed Apple asked Foxconn to move some of its iPad and MacBook production out from China to Vietnam, in a bid to diversify production. The US-China trade war was a pressure point on the company, forcing it to come up with ways to minimize the impact of inter-continental political maneuvers.

Samsung heir returns to prison over South Korean bribery scandal

Samsung vice chairman and heir Lee Jae-yong has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for his role in a national bribery scandal.

A retrial of the bribery case involving former South Korean President Park Geun-hye has resulted in Lee receiving a prison sentence. The court determined Lee was guilty of bribery, embezzlement, and concealment of criminal proceeds, valued at around 8.6 billion won ($7.8 million.)In its verdict, the court said Lee "actively provided bribes and implicitly asked the president to use her power to help his smooth succession" at the top of the company, reports the BBC.

Bug in macOS Fast User Switching logs out M1 Mac users

An unknown number of Apple Silicon users who have two or more accounts on their M1 Mac are seeing their screensaver spontaneously start and them being logged out.

Apple's Fast User Switching — introduced in 2003's OS X Panther, and a convenient security feature — is reportedly causing problems with some M1 Macs. The feature lets users have more than one login account on their Mac, including a Guest one, and switch between them. However, that switching feature is reportedly activating unexpectedly.

Apple extends 13-inch MacBook Pro service program for 'stage light' issue

Apple has updated its repair program for the 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro to fix the so-called "stage light" problem, increasing the eligibility from four years to five years after the first retail sale of the unit.

Apple launched its 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program in May 2019, enabling a small number of 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro users to fix an issue with the backlight of their devices. For some units, the backlight can exhibit a stage light-style effect, which the program offers to fix.The problem of bright and dark spots at the bottom of the screen was found to be due to Apple using fragile flex cablesinstead of wire cables, as used in earlier models, which wear down over time. This can cause parts of the backlight to stop showing, or break the backlight completely.

Apple sued for not removing Telegram from App Store over violent content and hate groups

Apple is being sued by the Coalition for a Safer Web for failing to remove access to Telegram while still blocking Parler, and also alleging it is being used by hate groups and extremists to attack the Capitol.

Filed on Sunday at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the lawsuit from Ambassador Marc Ginsberg and the Coalition for a Safer Web charges Apple with allowing Telegram to be available in the App Store. This "despite Apple's knowledge that Telegram is being used to intimidate, threaten, and coerce members of the public."Billed as a "non-partisan, not-for-profit advocacy organization" to force the removal of extremist and terrorist content from social media platforms, the Coalition claims Apple is failing to follow its own policies and guidelines regarding app content in relation to Telegram. In doing so, Apple allows Telegram's more malicious users to continue their activities.

Prototype iPhone 5s shown in black and slate gray colors

A prototype of the iPhone 5s has surfaced with an unusual slate grey backing, a darker color scheme that may have been used to disguise the iPhone model ahead of its launch.

Unveiled by Apple in September 2013 and accompanied by the iPhone 5c, the iPhone 5s was offered to the public in a choice of three color schemes. However, new images suggest Apple may have considered another option, one it ended up using on pre-release devices.Images shared by @DongleBookPro on Twitter show what is identified as an "iPhone 5s Prototype." The device is shown to bear fake regulatory details on the rear, indicating it isn't a version intended for release to the public.

Signal app recovers from outage caused by new user flood

Privacy-focused messaging app Signal is back online after an outage lasting more than 24 hours, an extended downtime caused by a large rush of users switching to the app.

Late on Saturday night, Signal posted to Twitter that it was operational once again. Expressing the news using a gif from the movie "Rocky," the app claimed it had "learned a lot since yesterday," as well as thanking the "millions of new Signal users" for their patience."Your capacity for understanding inspired us while we expanded capacity," the tweet concluded.
