The footage is reportedly said to have been recorded over the Jequitinhonha Valley in Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 2009 by an American tourist traveling through the region. According to the claim, it was filmed using a Sony DCR-PJ5 camcorder, a model advertised with 60x optical zoom and 1800x digital zoom.

On July 7, 2026, a crew member aboard UPS Flight 62, a commercial cargo flight operating from Louisville to Anchorage and onward to Hong Kong, captured video footage of three bright, luminous orbs that appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
