First SEP PI request outside LatAm; Via LA Bridge Summit; UPC and other patent news

1) Dolby seeking SEP-based preliminary injunction against Roku as Munich I Regional Court outpaces UPC’s Munich LD by wide margin

2) Via LA Bridge Summit to feature inter-pool administrator discussion: third edition in San Francisco (September 22-26)

Co-hosted by the UC Berkeley Center for Law & Technology, Via Licensing Alliance’s third-ever Bridge Summit will be held at the Fairmont in San Francisco, and will include keynotes from Huawei’s Emil Zhang and Xiaomi’s Na Wei, as well as a panel discussion with fellow pool administrators Sisvel and Access Advance.

3) Judge Dr. Kircher resigns from Unified Patent Court’s Mannheim Local Division and is succeeded by Judge Sender

The Unified Patent Court (UPC) is a major success story, and it is remarkable to what extent even very senior judges (such as presiding judges of regional appeals courts) volunteer to serve as side judges on UPC first-instance panels. Resignations by judges are rare, but sometimes it happens.

4) LinkedIn post: Nokia and Element (which brought a declaratory-judgment again and PTAB IPR petitions) sign license agreement

5) LinkedIn post: Headwater Research expands enforcement campaign, sues Apple, Google, Amazon, Comcast, Charter Communications and DISH in the U.S.

6) Unitree Robotics faces its first-ever patent infringement suit as it starts IPO process

A local chemical company has sued Unitree, the world’s leading robotic dog manufacturer, in Hangzhou, China, over alleged patent infringement, shortly after the company started preparations to file for an IPO.
